Opera: still can not convert the key pressed (for instance to upper case)?

Hi,

More than a year passed since Netscape/Mozilla implemented what IE had since IE 5:
http://www.faqts.com/knowledge_base/view.phtml/aid/1661

Is Opera still behind and does not allow re-assign keyCode?

Mozilla has not implemented what IE has, IE allows script to change the
event.keyCode property in an event handler which Mozilla doesn't allow.
What Mozilla allows and what that FAQTS article exploits is that Mozilla
allows you to manipulate the selection in a text control after
cancelling the key event.
Is Opera still behind and does not allow re-assign keyCode?

Opera (as tested with 7.50) like Mozilla doesn't allow you to change the
keyCode property of the event object. And Opera as far as I know has no
API to allow script to manipulate the selection in a text control.
Of course Opera allows you to change the whole value of a text control
to upper case onchange or onblur or onsubmit.

Has someone got a Python routine or module which converts Unicode strings to lowercase (or uppercase)? What I actually need to do is to compare a number of strings in a case-insensitive manner, so I assume it's simplest to convert to lower/upper first. Possibly all strings will be from the latin-1 character set, so I could convert to 8-bit latin-1, map to lowercase, and convert back, but that seems rather cumbersome.

Here's what I want to do: I have a hash table which contains data associated to different keys. The Hash keys are represented by a single character from the keyboard: 0-9, a-z, A-Z, and the other special characters. I want my program to detect what key the user pressed from the keyboard and get the associated data from the hash table (associated with the key he pressed which is the same as the hash key). The user can also decide to...

I've put together a prototype of two-tiered CSS tabs that works really well in IE6, IE7, and FF2. It also works very well in Opera 9.27 _except_ that the placement of the lower tier of tabs is messed up. Both the XHTML and CSS validate without any errors or warnings. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong? I'd be especially interested in the technique you used to figure out where the problem was. I still struggle a lot when I try to...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
