Editing HTML from within a web site

There are times that I am using another person's computer who has no
knowledge of updating HTML and does not even know if he has the
necessary programs to do the FTP.

I may see a minor problem with my site and would like to change it on
the fly. What I would like to know are the answers to the following
questions.

1. Is there any way to display unformated HTML within a web page
without using the browsers source facility?

2. Is there a way to modify it? Maybe showing it in a form textarea.

3. Is there a way for javascript or a form to do an FTP back to the web
site? This would obviously require id and password.

Why don't you just do this with a database and a server-side scripting
languages (such as MS Access and server-side JavaScript)? You should
look in to PHP and MySQL.

You seem to be looking for a web site that lets you access some other
web site.

In the early days of the internet, you could get a unix account on a
server. You could do what you want with such an account.

Although the user may not know what is on his or her computer, you could
know more.

The version I have of Windows 98se comes with a DOS version of FTP. I
assume later versions of Windows come with FTP. MacOS X comes with FTP
too. On these systems, you could get into FTP and do your thing. Both
Windows and MacOS come with text editing programs.

I recently had to relearn the command line ftp. It's not too bad. All
command line ftp's have the same core sent of commands.

It might be helpful if you specified what OS this other computer has!

Sure. Most OSes have editors. For example, in Unix that would be vi or
emacs or a host of other editors. On Windows you have edit, notepad,
wordpad, etc.
2. Is there a way to modify it? Maybe showing it in a form textarea.
Editors in general allow you to perform modifications.

Don't need JavaScript for this. FTP comes with Unix and Windows too.

You could:

1. Either use the browser's File: Save As to "get" the web page
source or FTP (which can "get" as well as "put").
2. Use an editor on the OS you're on to correct the problem.
3. Use FTP to "put" the modified file back.

Hi, I'm a Zope newbie but an experienced Python programmer. Could someone suggest a general approach for the two parts below? 1) I'd like to build a system that stores XML documents in the ZODB and allows them to be edited through the web in a new text format. The format is similar to StructuredText and can be translated to XML and vice versa, using Python methods.

Hi all, Without opening a HUGE can of worms, I just wanted to get some ideas of what others are using professionally to create websites commercially. For years I had used Homesite and never migrated to Dreamweaver or ColdFusion. My limited abilities notwithstanding, I have moved to FrontPage 2000 (forget validation) and now to MS Publisher. Am I essentially bringing a knife to a gun fight here? I have a very limited budget and want to...

I just had a bad experience using MS Word as an HTML editor. It bloated more than 200% so I could barely recognize the essential statements; and it introduced more than 14,000 errors. Also, although it displayed fine in Firefox, it was unintelligible to IE. I spent the day trying to reduce the errors to the point wherel HTML Tidy could finish a pass without aborting. Finally I succeeded. No errors. It displays fine in Firefox & IE. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
