What simple GUI programs are there?

Hello! I've just learned Java for about a month and a half. It's our focus for this semester. Now my teacher said that for our project, we are to make useful programs with GUI. She said that games would be okay. The thing is, I don't have any idea what I'm supposed to make in this project. Our deadline for passing program proposal is the end of January, but I still don't know what to make! >.<

I have thought of making a memo-calendar that would be like Google Gadgets but I guess that is just too much. I was thinking of making a maze but (heck) I don't know how heavy this project will be with GUI. T_T I was thinking of making a Chess game but, I'm not a chess player (I suck at chess, I know a THE rules but I suck at chess, logic for possibilities will be very hard). So now, I'm back to zero ideas.

Can anyone suggest?

My teacher requires GUI for our project but I haven't done any programs with GUI (she didn't teach us GUI just yet too!) still she insisted that we pass a project proposal before January ends. Help me, I'm panicking... ='(

PS ->> If my experiences matter, then I've done a few basics but NO GUI (not yet, because we didn't touch that topic just YET). I know what the parameters in a method name means, I know what modifiers (like public and private) mean and I know what static and non-static methods are. I also know what a constructor is, and I know about wrapper classes and overloading. Not much about inheritance and interface (just yet) but I'm reading ahead of our curriculum. So yeah, it's not much (I repeat, I'm just a beginner), but I hope this bit of information helps you for making a suggestion... ^_^

They might call this resurrecting a zombie, but I just want to put one last post.

I thought I need database for player profiles...so I dumped that. I was able to make a scoring process (I even made a "reward" system to increase the "life" of the players, like casual Mario).

My team mates helped with the audio-visual and I did the internal logic thingy. We did the project, passed it on time and we luckily got a 93%. =D

Even though it's a late, I would like to say: Thank you so much for your help, ThatThatGuy!!! ^_^

I apologize in advance for launching this post but I might get enlightment somehow (PS: I am _very_ agnostic ;-). - 1) I do not consider my intelligence/education above average - 2) I am very pragmatic - 3) I usually move forward when I get the gut feeling I am correct - 4) Most likely because of 1), I usually do not manage to fully explain 3) when it comes true. - 5) I have developed for many years (>18) in many different environments,...

Beside its an opensource and supported by community, what's the fundamental differences between PostgreSQL and those high-price commercial database (and some are bloated such as Oracle) from software giant such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase? Is PostgreSQL reliable enough to be used for high-end commercial application? Thanks

What makes a good C/C++ programmer? Would you be surprised if I told you that it has almost nothing to do with your knowledge of C or C++? There isn't much difference in productivity, for example, between a C/C++ programmers with a few weeks of experience and a C/C++ programmer with years of experience. You don't really need to understand the subtle details or use the obscure features of either language

I have read threads here and there and I have looked at MS but I can not get a clear understanding of what .Net acutally is. I understand that C++ and Vb and other languages are being out a .Net. I get some idea that it still is OOP. I think it has different ways of managing the code. But what is it? Thanks -- SailFL

Hi friends, I need to write a parallel code in 'C' on the server that is running SGI Irix 6.5. This server supports MIPS Pro C compiler. I don't have any idea of parallel C languages. I looked into few posts in this group. I could make out that there are several languages for parallel programming and parallel C is one of them. I need to know if this is supported by MIPS Pro C Compiler. Or are there any other parallel C languages that have...

in March, i posted a essay “What is Expressiveness in a Computer Language”, archived at: http://xahlee.org/perl-python/what_is_expresiveness.html I was informed then that there is a academic paper written on this subject. If we look at a programming language such as C++: When an updated Standard comes out, everyone adopts it and abandons the previous one. It seems though that things aren't so clear-cut in the C community. It would seem that C99 is the most up-to-date Standard, but far more people seem to be working off the C89 Standard. Could someone please explain to me why this is so? --

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
