I am rewrite some of my excel sheets to xml document. In my excel,
there is a lot of special characters like "/", " " (space), "#", "+'.
I am using a java program based on JDom to to create xml. The program
is complaining about those characters with the exception like

1.2345d-13 where 'd' serves the same role as 'e' usually does in scientific

I need to find a regular expression that will pick up spaces that are
followed by either another space or an expression.
I have been using the expression "(?<=) (?=)" which has been
working fine, except in the example "1 space", it is picking up the
space. I know it's because it's looking for a space, &, n, b, s, p, ;
character. How to I change the regular expression to look for a space
that is followed by a space or " "?

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
