I'm intending to write an extremely specialised application that will use XML to describe data structures for exchanging complex structures. At this stage the exact structure of the XML documents is not finalized - though I have an XML Schema definition for the current proposed format. I would like to make it extremely easy to edit the XML documents - though at this stage I do not intend to provide a bespoke editor... this may be an...

Let me start by saying that, yes we know v6.5 is no longer supported by Microsoft and that moving to SQL2000 might resolve our problem. Actually the migration to SQL2000 is 1 to 2 months out and in the QA phase now. Unfortunately we need to resolve the current 6.5 issue now as it heavily impacts a major revenue stream for the company with every outage we encounter. The Problem: At least once every 24 hours the SQL Server begins...

Hi Folk, A local NGO has asked me to create a donor database for them (who paid when, how much, etc...) Does any of you gurus know of any databases out there that can do the job? It is a pretty simple setup. I imagine there will be two tables. One with contact details and one with payments. I can set it up from scratch, but I am trying to do it as efficiently as possible, so a template may help.

Hi all, I've developed a mobile application for windows mobile 5.0 that has been in use for a while (1 year and a couple of months). It was developed in visual studios 2005 with a back-end sql server mobile ce database. Until recently I was synching everything thru a com port serial cable. The devices would connect to the computer thru activesync and are able to acquire an internet connection. The sync for the program occurs thru a website...

This is about a technique to find the mod of a very large integer with a normal small integer. I recently encountered this problem when I needed to compute the modulus of a very large number with a normal integer. I needed this in a C++ program running on a 32-bit UNIX platform. The problem was that the number was 28 digits long and no native datatype in c++ could store a number of that size. (Eg: 1088263455689473669888943602 % 380) Not...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
