Good evening,
Windows 2000, JDK 1.5.
What opinions do people have on what way and tool programmaticly produces
the best quality thumbnails from larger images?
On the web I've seen Java Advanced Imaging (JAI), ImageMagick, and GIMP all
praised as best in different places.
Is there another tool or other better solution?
Can anybody point to a superior JAI implementation, if that's considered
best?
Many thanks,

PhotoShop!
In part, that is why it costs a lot!
It's algorithms are highly tweaked!

I don't have PhotoShop now, and I don't think I can afford it for just one
application. Just out of curiousity, can PhotoShop be called from Java?
What would be second best?

Sure, you can call it. You can exec the PhotoShop.exe from Java. Not
sure if PhotoShop can be called with a parameter list of what to be
display.
Second best, IMHO, is GIMP and that is free.
Thanks in Advance...

Good evening,
I have found an implementation of Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) that produces
what I think are, at least, quite good results.
It's intermingled with intelectual property so I can't share the code. Here
is a link though if you want to see what is possible with JAI. I'm not shy
about giving it because the site generates no revenue (by design) :) www.quick-trader.com

I'm trying to display thumbnail images in a Listview that look more like the

It looks like the Windows thumbnails retain their proportion by, perhaps,

Hello all!
I been trying to get a handle with Images. I have learned alot from the fine
people here. So, I also learned that thumbnail images look terrible taken
from a digital cam. I know why they look bad. So what is the best way to
resize an image. I'm not too concerned about size, but I guess I would like
to compress it on the upload.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
I need to store lots of product images. I was thinking of storing the paths
in the database but overtime it may become cumbersome as I'll be dealing with
lots of images.
I would need to display both a thumbnail and large versions. The average
size per image is 400kb and the max display is 1702 by 2542.
Would SQL Server be a good alternative?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
