simple java server

Hello,

I'm starting to learn about java networking.

What I want to do is for now, just make a server that listens to connections
through a port, and accepts it's connections from the client.

I don't have that many connections about networking, so I don't know any
good book that gives a nice comprehensive introduction to java networking.
My plans are starting from scratch learnig this, and reach a level that I
can make a cinema server, wich makes ticket reservations, and each cinema
stand can access the room and see which seats are available.

For now that's just it. with time I'd like to develop myself on java
networking. So any help(not doing code for me, off course) would be nice.

I've got O'reilly java networking, but I find it quite boring, reading all
that. Maybe the book is good, but... You, know! If you could get me some
references, I'd apreciate it.

That book you have is good, but its not meant to be read cover-to-cover.
I don't do it that way at least.

Try finding a chapter that relates to what you want to do (I recommend
chapter Chapter 10 of the 3rd Edition of the book.) Also the Java
Cookbook (also highly recommended) has a chapter all about networking
and a selection of the various problems you'll encounter when writing
networked applications.

If it were me, I'd write it in mod_perl and let the web server handle
the networking. But I'm not you and I want you to do it your own way.

get Java Network Programming, 3rd ed.,
get the Java Cookbook,
Experiment with your own programs.

have fun. Java is a nice language.

I'm trying to write a really basic chat program that allows 2 client programs to send messages to each other via a server. I've managed to write the code so that both clients can connect to the server and send and recieve messages to/from the server but when I send a message from one client I can't get the message to appear in the second client. I think it's something to do with threads but I don't know what! I've been looking at the...

Chuck Allison says: After three years of study, I have concluded that Python is about as simple as a full-powered object-oriented language can get. My inner programmer just loves it. In a recent interview Scott Meyers was asked which language he thought would be ideal for introducing programming to novices. He replied: "... a first language should foster a feeling of power and accomplishment out of the box - it should get people...

My Googling has let me down here - maybe because when it comes to Java I don't really know which type I need! If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. My requirement is simple: to display a 2-d graph within a web page where the X and Y values are taken from a database (residing on the server hosting the web pages). The GUI is to allow panning forwards and backwards over time (the X values are 32-bit timestamps)...

Hi everyone, I have a concept for a pretty simple web game, and am currently considering my options regarding the storage of the game state. Ideally, I would like to have a custom server running that keeps the most accessed data in memory, and which all clients connect to. Nothing new there, but I am wondering as to what protocol to use for the client server communication. Go for one of the available XML- based standards, or use...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
