Hi all,
I have a question if it is possible to manipulate the settings of
character encoding in Ms Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. The
problem is that the default instalation of Ms IE seems to have hard
selected default encoding to "Western European (ISO)", which means
iso-8859-1. When browsing pages with some Central/Eastern European
characters these are converted to iso-8859-1 so displayed wrong.
I would suppose the...

Hello,
I'm a total newbie on Javascript, and with a lot of help and some copy
and paste managed to get things running.
On my site: http://home.wanadoo.nl/homepage I use a form from
Bravenet. This works fine.
Unfortunately some persons fill in their e-mail address instead of the
URL of their page. Checking is done on empty fields but how to avoid

I'm working on a project to collect web application usage statistics. What
are the recommended ways of detecting whether a browser is JavaScript
enabled and/or capable? Obviously I can write a script to invoke something
on the server, and if it works, then it works. Is there a better way? I'm
looking for the least intrusive way of doing it, from a web application
point of view. i.e. I'd like to be able to drop this into an existing...

i want to have a function which can print the printable form (possibly a 2
character string) of a character on UNIX like systems. for example, if i were to
pass the ascii value '\3', i would like it printed "^C".
there is a file called charset.c in the distribution of less
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/less/less-382.tar.gz] which achieves this, but it is
quite long winded and i do not wish to have to copy all the relevant code, as it
is longer...

Hi,
I have a VB.Net program that extracts data from Word document tables and saves it off to Sql Server. I notice that when it gets to the database, there are two nonprintable characters on the end of each field. I thought of using substring-before to parse these out, but I'm not sure how to refer to them as they are just represented as squares in the database. I'd also like to convert number strings to numerics but need to get rid of...

In C#, using the StreamReader, how do I detect when you get to the end
of line. I am reading a text file using the Read() function and I need
to detect the \n\r, but everything I try does not work. I am sure that
this probably fairly simple, but I have not been able to figure it out.

hello,
this post assumes executing a program with file redirection as follows:
program.exe < intput.txt
where input.txt is a text file where there is not necessarily any
whitespace after the last character and the EOF.
i've found some useful posts about detecting EOF when using cin with

Hello,
I have a KeyDown event in which I would like to determine if the current key
is a standard character (i.e., from the ASCII character set). In C I would
use something like the isascii finction for this, but I realize the key
values produced by the Keys enumeration are not simply the ASCII value of the
keys. I've found references to the IsInputKey method but I can't fiture out
how it is used (or if it should be used) for this...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
