I'm an opengl programmer who recently started playing with java3d
and the scene graph methodology takes a bit to get used to. I'm
wondering if there are any OTHER comprehensive tutorials for java3d
besides the one on the sun.com site. It would be nice to find
something that can be downloaded and browsed offline.

Scenegraphs are a very common approach to graphics at a higher level. The
problem (or benefit?) of OGL is that it is low level.
I found that for most of the time I simply used the API spec. Not the
html that comes with Java3D but the Sun book, "The Java 3D API
Specification" - it's on its second edition now. Another (fairly) good
one is "Essential Java 3D Fast" by Ian Palmer. Small, not comprehensive,
easy to follow. You can also get a lot of material (tutorials, resources
etc.) from http://www.j3d.org (very useful site) and some other sites.

You might also try posting your question to "comp.lang.java .3d" since
it's more likely that there will be people around there who work with it
regularly.
