I've spent a lot of time using python, and personally, I feel like it is vastly superior when compared to languages like java, and c++, but there are still a few things that detract from its elegance and flexibility. I thought I might mention a few of them. I'd like to hear what people think of my complaints, and I also like to hear the complaints of others. 1. many keywords (eg:try/except) are strictly imperative, and cannot be used in...

Hi, I have something that I'd like to clarify here.... there are two issues. I have simple dummy class called base which (everything is inlined just for readability) defines these methods... friend base operator+ (const base& lhs, const base& rhs) { base tmp;

I know about RAII and BS's response to previous requests, but I'd really love to see 'finally' available in C++ exception handling. Yes, we can live without 'finally' but it means a bit more typing (more classes) for simple scenarios (like calling LeaveCriticalSection() before a function returns). It would also make porting other languages to C++ a bit more simple. Another thing I'd like to see is a 'reentrant' keyword that can be...

Hi, I am one of the many that get fed up with browser sniffing and cross platform issues. Is ECMAscript a new independant cross platform specification that can do loads of nice things that JavaScript can do? If so, is it well supported? If someone could give me brief overview of this that would be great, thanks

Lads Am using ASP.NET, Framework 1.1 Creating a web application to read details from a MYSQL database. Am using the dbProvider to create connection to the DB. I am having a lot of issues with connection pooling etc. Also of late getting an error, "Could not initiate communication with the server" which is strange.

As a complete novice in the study of Python, I am asking myself where this language is superior or better suited than others. For example, all I see in the tutorials are lots of examples of list processing, arithmetic calculations - all in a DOS-like environment. What is particularly disappointing is the absence of a Windows IDE, components and an event driven paradigm. How does Python stand relative to the big 3, namely Visual C++,...

Perhaps I'm just a bit frustrated, and I will soon realize the clear truth of the matter, but right now I have some serious misgivings about the value of investing a lot of time and effort into template programming. I just finished reading the first 12 chapters of _C++ Templates: The Complete Guide_. One thing that struck me as I read these chapters is how much I didn't know about C++. I _know_ the core language specification is...

No, this is not a troll, and I am not promoting Java, C-flat, D, APL, Bash, Mathematica, SML, or LISP. A college teacher recently posted to this newsgroup regarding her observation that there has been a significant decline in the number of students opting to take courses in C++. I just want to let people know what I believe are the biggest obstacles to C++ language acquisition, and what aspects of the language make it less appealing than...

I'm extremely new to JAVA. In fact I never knew Java until I got accidentally placed in that class after some mix up with the C++ classes. So, what can I do to make Java easier? Because I do not understand the language as a whole and also in detail. Whereas HTML came pretty easy to me after a few months, I've already been doing Java for half a year and I still don't understand it. PLEASE HELP ME! Website and tutorials would be nice. :)

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
