The new Sun Application Server Edition 8

Hi,

I'm running Linux RH 9.

I downloaded the recently released app server 8 from sun.com.

Next, I installed it with all defaults.

It appears to be useful for getting up to speed quickly with the
recently released J2EE 1.4

I read the quickstart guide which comes with the app server.

I started the app server with this command line:

/opt/SUNWappserver/bin/asadmin start-domain domain1

Which seemed to work okay; my machine started listening on
port 8080 and served up some HTML when I pointed a browser there.

My question:

How do I start the admin server?

The quickstart guide offers no clue and I see no evidence that
Sun has the Edition 8 documentation up on the web yet.

Here is some syntax from their app server 7 page which did not work:

asadmin> start-domain --domain domain1 admin-server
Option domain deprecated.
Starting Domain admin-server, please wait.
Log redirected to /opt/SUNWappserver/domains/admin-server/logs/server.log.
Domain does not exist: admin-server
CLI156 Could not start the domain admin-server.
asadmin>

Again...
How do I start the admin server in the new
Sun Application Server Edition 8?

Thanks,

-moi

When running my asp.net hosting service (asp.net without IIS), on server 2003 with IIS not installed, I get the following when trying to process a request. "System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL (aspnet_isapi.dll)." Of course the dll is able to be found, it's still in the framework directory and for grins I even put it in my service's local directory. This is apparantly server 2003 not allowing asp.net to be run if IIS was not...

Hi All We are having a VB application on SQL. But we need to collect information from persons who will be offline to verify data and insert new data. Generally they will be entering the data in Excel spread sheets which can be uploaded to the database using the application after some validations. But rather than Excel I was looking at Infopath with Access as the database, to create validation rules and collect data offline that can be...

Hi We have an MS Access application which runs on the server but some laptop users need the app to work offline. Our solution has been to use Access replication which automatically syncs data (both ways) when laptop is connected to the network. We are looking to rewrite the app to vb.net/sql server. My question is how does replication work in sql server specially in context of a vb.net front end i.e. what sort of coding/configuration we...

Hi all - I am starting a plan for building a web application based on .NET 2.0 Framework in conjunction with Spring Framework. However, my market requirements requires me to allow the application to run completely offline in the browser. Meaning, the same application that is deployed on our servers, would have to be deployed (along with the DB) on the client's machine and run completely disconnected. Since this is new to me, I like to...

Hi, I have just configured my C# multi-threaded application from 32 bit to 64 bit platform for getting more memory support. But my application runs up to 40 - 50% slower as compared to 32 bit platform. The overall idea about the multithreaded application is, we do recalculation for server hundred thousand records available in the database. Fetch the records from the table and do the recalculation finally it will update it into the...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
