Object Allocation on The Heap

EKL
Hi,

Is there a tool, e.g. a profiler, that I can use to check where in the
program is object allocated from the heap? If a profiler can do that, how
do I enable it? Thanks.

What I mean is why can I only allocate const size stuff on the stack in C++? If I want to allocate a variable amount I need to use the OS API (Win32 in my case). Thanks, Tom.

Hello, I want to make my garbage collector more safe. To make it more safe I need to know if an object has been allocated on the stack or on the heap using the operator new. My garbage collector uses a mixture of reference counting and smart pointers. I have got a base class ("Object") which handles all the memory management stuff. I have worked out different approaches to pass the info to my base class (won't name all):

Operator overloading has a sort syntax rather than member function call for stack based memory allocation. like complex<int> c1,c2,c3; c3= c1+c2; How the same can be applied to heap based memory allocation? like complex<int> * c1,*c2,*c3; i still want to do something like c3 = c1+c2 ; rether than *c3 = *c1+*c2;

What I'd like to do and what I tought possible was to have a deque of string when the string was a reference (not a pointer) Then I simply tried: std::deque<std::string const &> mFifo; But, the compiler have some trouble with this at the first try. From what I know, template is a powerful mecanism an STL a well programmed library. I'm using VS2005 but STLPort seems with a quick look to suffer the same problem I will discuss shortly.

1: It is not possible to check EVERY malloc result within complex software. 2: The reasonable solution (use a garbage collector) is not possible for whatever reasons. 3: A solution like the one proposed by Mr McLean (aborting) is not possible for software quality reasons. The program must decide

From 'Inside the C++ Object Model' by 'Stanley B. Lippman' 'The primary strength of the C++ Object Model is its space and runtime efficiency. Its primary drawback is the need to recompile unmodified code that makes use of an object of a class for which there has been an addition, removal, or modification of the nonstatic class data members.' Here I can understand the strength of C++ object model but can anybody elaborate the primary...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
