Reading MAGTEK peripheral devices on JSP/J2EE platforms

We are developing a Web application on J2EE platform and require to
support cetain peripheral devices such as MAGTEK PinPad and Card Swipe
(http://www.magtek.com/) connected to a PC port.

I am thinking of having two threads, one for reading from the port and
one to write to the port. The whole purpose of doing this is to
support the MAGTEK Pin Pad peripheral device on a Browser. The device
is connected to the COM5 port and it simulates the keyboard. So once
the data is keyed on the Pin Pad it is transfered to the port from
where the application would be reading it.

Following are my questions.
1. How are overlapped I/O operations supported in Java?
2. Are there any API's for doing the same?

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Regards'

Java seems to have taken off as the platform and language of choice for many embedded devices. Would it be feasible for Python(perhaps running on an embedded version of Linux) to act in such a capacity. Most of my experience with Python has been with Unix-type scripting tasks and using it when it is an applications built in scripting, but I know some people try to use to build larger complex applications. Is the Python interpreter portable...

So I can focus on the correct areas of research, I was wondering if someone could give me the .NET equivelents for this J2EE architecture: JSP's make calls to local JavaBean Controls. The controls do a JNDI lookup to invoke methods on EJB's. The EJB's use local Java classes, and these classes use JDBC to do database work. Example: Login.jsp contains "import xxx.LoginControl", and invokes the "login"

Note the cross-posting - but no flame wars please. This question was prompted by a thread on the a postgres mailing list during which someone (Gregory Williamson) claimed <quote> raw devices, at least on Solaris, are about 10 times as fast as cooked file systems for Informix. <quote>

Hi there, I posted a thread in another group. I could not get satisfactory feedback. I would like to try if anybody in this group can help me out. My plan was, to develop components at server side (something like EJBs). For data entry and operation application functions, I can use C#.Net. For reporting and enquiry functions, I can use ASP.Net. You may aware that these two packages have a lot in common. Under J2EE environment, I know...

Believe it or not, I've searched quite a bit and can't find any relevant information on how to consume a J2EE web service from a .NET consumer WITHOUT the aid of any 3rd party tools. I have two questions: 1. In a nutshell, how is this accomplished? 2. Are there any publicly available J2EE web services out there that I can try this against? I don't have the ability to create the J2EE side of the

I've done a fair amount of Googling for information on reading the serial port in C++ (and in Linux). Unfortunately, out of every 4 hits, 1 seems to be an unanswered question, 1 is someone saying, "That's easy, there's a lot out there, Google it,", 1 is a discussion on it without examples and the other is who knows what. I did find some info on it and have been experimenting. The one example that I liked the best in terms of...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
