Pan and Zoom images

I need some help and have no idea where to start. I'm posting here because
it's going on a web page, but I'm not sure there *IS* a best forum for
this.

I have a client that has images he wants included on his web page - so far,
no problem. The issue is that the visitor needs to be able to pan around
the image, possibly rotate it, definitely zoom in and out. To me (feel free
to correct me), that sounds like a vector graphic tool, but I'm not aware
of one for web pages. Surely, today such tools exist though.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or help? Even pointing me at a tool would
be a giant step forward.

I think we're about to become circular.

The client has images of archetectural drawings. When someone visits the
website, they will bepresented with a standard view of the drawing. Using
the mouse - or some tool - the user needs to be able to move the drawing
up, down, right, or left, revealing / hiding the part of the image that
isn't onscreen. Likewise, the user should be able to rotate the image to
see the sides / back of the image (taken together, this is commonly called
panning on an image). In addition, the user needs to be able to magnify or
reduce the image centered on a point chosen by the user (commonly called
zooming). That *IS* the problem. What tool would be used for this on the
web.

No, that's someone's idea of the solution, it may be the best approach,
or it may not be.

What is to be conveyed with these drawings?
For whom is this intended on the client side?

No, that's someone's idea of the solution, it may be the best approach,
or it may not be.

I'm having trouble believing that we're having trouble communicating on
this. The requirement - coming from the guy that has the money - is to
allow his sites visitors to view the drawings from the angle and
magnification factor that *THEY* choose. Not me, not the site owner, the
VISITOR is choosing this. The client is specifically saying he want them to
be able to pan and zoom (that's a quote) on this drawings. I don't think
he's interested in the visitor's "motivations" or psychological responses
at the time. The visitors have paid to see the archetectural models and are
to be allowed to do so the way they want to.

I can accept that you don't have the answer; heck, at this moment, neither
do I - although I will get it.

The Vatican museum is doing something similar to what I think you want to
do. Have a look at <http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/x-

maybe they might be willing to point you to what they used.
