JS not required: http://devnull.tagsoup.com/fixed/

Interesting. Mine only works in MSIE Quirks mode and needs
javascript: The js expression doesn't work in msie standard mode.

Masters: On two or three-column layouts, one column often has a list of links. Scrolling the page hides them. I'm aware there's supposed to be the ability to fix the column (frame-like). I have some bits of such code but haven't yet made it work well. Question: Why have I never seen an example on the web? Not that I've seen everything, but I've seen numerous pages

don't know if I'll succeed, have spent a lot of time already trying to figure this out: I would like to position a footer (co. name, address, etc..) at the bottom of browser page, in such a way that it's always at the bottom no matter how high the screen is ('clientHeight' in browser model) and that stays there when user scrolls.. in the "official" CSS specif's (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/visuren.html#fixed-positioning) I found this:...

I'm trying to do something seemingly very simple, but it's brought me close to crushing my head on the keyboard. All I want is a table where the head row is fixed and the body columns below are scrollable (with the ordinary scrollbars, no less). Whatever I try, the columns in the head and the body aren't aligned; the widths are computed independently which gives a completely ragged look. Michael --

Hello. We recently designed a webapp and because most HQ staff use FF, we designed it based on FF. Now we extend this webapp to allow sub-offices in other cities to use the webapp, they use IE, and the look is terrible, CSS positions are very wrong. I can find all the difference between IE and mozilla and correct every positioning by providing two stylesheets for Mozilla and IE. But this is a lot of work. I wonder if there are existing...

Hi, I would really love to get some help from you since I am starting to become completely desperate with something quite simple... I am trying to transfer a fixed-positioning-implementation for IE from a tutorial page (http://limpid.nl/lab/css/fixed/header-and-left-sidebar) to my site: http://www.refugio-thueringen.de/dev/dev.html. Everything works fine with FF and also it works with IE but only on the tutorial site not in my...

I cannot for the life of me remember the site name, but I believe it was the site of one of the regular posters here or perhaps in comp.lang.java.javascript. Anyway... The site in particular boasted about accessible JavaScript or proper JavaScript degradation, something along those lines. I remember specifically when I visited the site without JavaScript enabled it displayed the entire "menu" in a vertical fashion along the left side of...

Hello, this might sound stupid, but I got a really nice homepage template which unfortunately is a 3-Column Fixed Width CSS format. Now I don't have any content for the right column and would like the middle column just to use up that space instead. Any way this is possible? Thanks for your help, it is highly appreciated!

I've tried to create a sidebar that uses the fixed positioning property. However after looking through various tutorials and how to's of the web I can't find a bugger wrong with my code. This is good i hear you say.... well no its not. The problem is that the frigging sidebar isn't fixed! You maybe able to tell but this is pissing me off to say the least. So i'm praying that someone with much superior CSS knowledge then I can solve the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
