What am I doing wrong; Stylesheet missing in Mozilla FireFox RSS

I'm playing around with FireFox and RSS for the first time
and I'm getting this error

"This XML file does not appear to have any style information
associated with it. The document tree is shown below."

There is a "use this style sheet" entry in the properties for RSS
that is blank in the fresh install (XP). I've tried putting
the path for a couple of the .css files in the crome folder,
with no success.

The rss URLs I'm using are copy/pasted from feedreader, which
works fine.

Any suggestions ?

Well gee, let me concentrate and see if I can guess the URL of the
site you're talking about, so that I might have a prayer at giving a
useful answer.

Sorry, no, my ESP is on the fritz today.

All I can suggest is that perhaps the server is badly configured and
is serving up the CSS as something other than "text/css". Mozilla
with XML does require the CSS file to be of the right MIME type.

I've tried about a dozen well known public rss URLs, like slashdot,
newsforge, and Ziff-Davis. They all work in feedreader and none do on
Firefox, so it looks like it'a a generic setup problem on my FireFox
setup.

http://slashdot.org/index.rss is one of them.

AFAIK, Firefox is not a newsfeed reader. So it has no default style to
handle it, and feeds generally don't came with styles included: they are
not made for web browsers, but for some feed reading software. There is an
add-on available to turn Firefox (or Mozilla) into a feedreader, IIRC, and
there are plenty of standalone feedreaders. Opera can be set up with a
user stylesheet to show styled RSS in a browser page [1], and Opera 7.5
(available as preview only at this moment) will include a feedreader
integrated in the mail client.

Forgive me for being a little thick, but maybe it's all behaving properly?

Mozilla is just pointing out that this particular xml file has no
stylesheet associated with it - and why should it, it's an RSS feed. What
would it need a stylesheet for? Isn't supposed to be read by other
software rather than humans?

Maybe the fact that feedreader knows it's dealing with RSS feeds, means
that it doesn't bother to notify you that there's no stylesheet, and just
displays it in a way it thinks an RSS feed should be meaningfully
displayed. Whereas Mozilla just thinks it's a generic xml file or some
sort and without a stylesheet just displays it as a tree.

Or have I missed something? :)
