Styling two tags in similar ways: Preferences

CJM
I'm working through Eric Meyer on CSS (a good book).

In one example, he uses the following styles:

a:link, a:visited {
background-color: Transparent;
font-weight:bold;
}

a:link {
color:#171;
}

a:visited: {
color:#747;
}

I was just wondering if there were any reasons (other than preference) that
he chose this route rather than just defining both tags seperately?

E.g.

a:link {
background-color: Transparent;
font-weight:bold;
color:#171;

}
a:visited {
background-color: Transparent;
font-weight:bold;
color:#171;
}

Cheers

CJM

Trying to solve this with a regex approach rather than the programmatic approach of counting up and down the levels. I have a fairly complicated HTML page that I want to simplify. I've been able to mung most of it using several regular expressions, but I've become stuck at this point. I can't figure out how to grab only the <tr> tags that are associated with tables that are two levels deep. I feel like I got close, but it seems that...

I want these to be in monospace, but monospace fonts are typically bigger looking than proportional fonts so I want to reduce the font size a bit. This leads me as an author to write kbd, samp { font-family: monospace; font-size: 90% } But _because_ monospace fonts are typically too big, as a user browsing other authors' Web pages I've told Mozilla to render monospace as 15px (compared to 17px for serif and sans).

I'm new to CSS and I'm trying to figure out the difference between the Header tags, div, span, and p tags as they relate to style sheets. They each render slightly different in the browser and accept different styles. I was wondering if there is any hard and fast rule or if it's just a matter of playing around and discovering ones preferences. Thanks, Jim

Hi, I am running into a few worrying problems with the ASP.NET calendar control. Styling is the problematic issue. Any info you could provide to help me would be greatly appreciated. The TitleStyle.Forecolor property doesn't work no matter how I try to set it. Directly in the aspx page, programmatically on the calendar object in C# or using a

Does c#/.net support custom tags like j2ee does? I don't mean to start a flaming war, I'm just honestly looking to find out. From what I've seen/google'd it doesn't, so I just thought I would ask here, maybe I was missing something? And while I'm at it, does c#/.net have something similar to ejbs? And what about servlets? Do you call methods in dlls and that's the similarity between servlets? Thanks.

On the website of the Dutch Jules Verne Society (www.jules-verne.nl), we have several forms that visitors can use to order something, or to apply for membership. Of course, a form's primary purpose is to be filled out online, but I can imagine, for example, one of our members giving a talk and printing a pile of application forms to hand out to the audience. I am trying to add some specific styles in the print stylesheet so the forms...

My basic style sheet has a distinctive background and border for forms, to make the structure clearer and to make it visually evident what belongs to a form. However, as people complained that some forms were odd-looking, I noticed that indeed, fairly often the background is not applied and there is empty space inside a form I didn't ask for. This was rather puzzling until I realized that the observed cases seem to result from one...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
