WYSI approximately WYG

As part of some content management development, I'm looking for a
web-based way of editing content that doesn't require everyone to
learn HTML.

Requirements:
- Good HTML code quality (i.e. doesn't leave <p><br></p>, etc. all
over the place, standards compliance would be nice but can be
sorted out by post-processing with tidy more easily than
unnecessary but valid markup can)

- customisable interface (e.g. can specify which tags users can use, etc)

- works in Mozilla (1.4+) / Netscape 7.1 / Internet Explorer 6,
our major intranet browsers

- cost isn't a problem provided site licences are available, a
commercial solution would be fine. However, a preview of it in
action so we can test the other bits is needed.

Almost requirements:
- easy to use with a bit of training

- 'code view' editing (only an almost requirement because I'm
assuming some sort of Java(script) application or similar that can
fall back to <textarea>)

- Works in Mozilla 1.0+/Netscape 7.0 which is still fairly common on
the intranet

Useful:
- works in other browsers too.

- stylesheet support without hand-editing the code.

- the more flexible the interface and allowed tags, the better.

- easy to use without (more than minimal) training

Not particularly needed:
- table support (unless it has really good <th scope=...> <td
headers=...> etc support, it'll be easier for us to write a
dedicated data table editor)

Currently we're trying HTMLarea2, but the 'good quality code' bit is
giving us a lot of trouble.

Thanks

I've recently come upon an odd Javascript (and/or browser) behavior, and after hunting around the Web I still can't seem to find an answer. Specifically, I have noticed that the Javascript encode() function behaves differently if a codepage has been set. For example: <script> document.write(escape('Ôèëìè')); (note: that should be five accented characters)

arrgh. Because I can't afford a new system right now, I'm running a hamster-powered Pentium 166, 64 M RAM, Win 95. I've been using Dreamweaver3, but I've now reached my limit. *rends DW3 with teeth & claws* Why have I stuck with DW this long? - good website management -- I have 6 or 7 so far, and DW is handy for integrating site management and design - templates I build and modify myself -- though DW is being so

I used the W3C markup and validation service for http://www.wasmundbindery.com and got this reply back. I don't understand what it means or how to fix it. The DOCTYPE Declaration in your document was not recognized. This probably means that the Formal Public Identifier contains a spelling error, or that the Declaration is not using correct syntax. Validation has been performed using a default "fallback" Document Type Definition that...

I'd like to see if a string exists, even approximately, in another. For example if "black" exists in "blakbird" or if "beatles" exists in "beatlemania". The application is to look though a long list of songs and return any approximate matches along with a confidence factor. I have looked at edit distance, but that isn't a good choice for finding a short string in a longer one. I have also explored difflib.SequenceMatcher and...

I have a db that stores people and their birth dates. On any given day, I need to know who has a 40th birthday one month from now. I will only be running the query on week days but of course some peoples 40th birthdays will fall on Saturday and Sunday, I may also be out of the office on certain days. So I need to "cast a net" to catch all birthdays "approximately" one month from now, but that "approximation needs to be predictable. How...

I received this database originally in UPPER CASE letters. When I convered to lower case, with the 1st letter being UPPER CASE, everything worked fine except that all the MacDonalds, McIntyres and MacInnis came out as Macdonald, Mcintyre and Macinnis. How do I fix this so that the 3rd or 4th letter is UPPER CASE.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
