Making an image "rise up"

Upon loading a page, I'd like a narrow image to rise up from the
bottom of the screen, along the left-hand side, and then stop at a
given point. I'd like to be able to choose the rate of ascent
(because too fast would look awful, and too slow would be, well, too
slow). After it reaches its destination, it wouldn't move again.

I assumed there would be a javascript for this. However, I've
searched all my favorite sites, but there doesn't seem to be a script
available that will do it. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish
this? Thanks in advance!

its not possible to determine too fast or too slow. it will vary from
person to person. what benefit does the animation have for the
visitor? how does it add value to the site? why is this animation
necessary?

just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I see no animation on that page. I see text, one photo, and at the
bottom, two static banner graphics and a counter.

Is this the same person who complained that the zengarden css site
< http://www.csszengarden.com/ > was, and I quote, "bo-ring?" One
photo, a couple of cheezy graphics at the bottom. Wastes more than
1/3 of the horizontal space. Heading cut off at the top. Need I
mention validation issues? Yes? No char encoding specified. No uri
in the doc-type definition. No type for script element. I could go
on, but you can see for yourself if you're so inclined.
Do you even understand Spanish?

What's that got to do with it?

Look at the CBE library at http://www.cross-browser.com/

It seems complex at first, but it's an initial learning "step", after
which all of the features are really easy to use.

It's about as cross-browser-compatible as you'll get for this sort of
function. I played with it for a bit, but decided it wasn't quite
compatible enough to justify the added complexity. I'm a bit of a
purist, so you may disagree.

I've sent several messages over the last year asking about python - Who teaches python? Is python losing steam? etc. I have noticed, eg, the declinng number of books at my local borders. The last time I visited a borders (last week), there was 1 (sic) book about python on the shelve compared to dozens on perl & java! On my last inquiry about who teaching python, I got two, maybe three, responses. I really want to see python succeed! It's...

Please excuse my ignorance on this matter.. but.... What exactly is the definition of a "pop-up window" - by that I mean one which will be blocked by software such as the Google Toolbar and Norton etc.... My website has a hyperlink which opens up a new browser window when clicked... is this regarded as a "pop-up" ? Would this be blocked by the aforementioned programs ?

I have an IFrame on my web pages that displays useful tips. I have a button next to it that hides and shows it by triggering a Javascript call. The problem is, with both of those techniques the IFRAME still occupies the same amount of real estate as before, even if it's now invisible /...

Hello, all, and TIA for any help you can offer. I've searched the Internet for answers and have finally come here. I've created a page (several, actually) with a link that opens a pop-up window. It's a pop-up window in the sense that it's smaller than the man page and is intended to be viewed and then closed. The problem is that if I include a link on that pop-up window HTML page, when the link is clicked the new page opens IN the...

I want to use a url link link to another page, opening up a second window, no problem. Isn't there a way to control the size of that second window, so it looks more like a popup, and doesn't cover the whole screen. Also, I notice some popups have no toolbars, etc., only the close menu. how do I do that? Thanks.
