Drop Down Menu Woes

4 New Member
I'm trying to create a drop down menu based off of some tutorials, but am having trouble.

Link: http://drc.usask.ca/projects/emet/indextest.html
css: http://drc.usask.ca/projects/emet/emet.css

biggest problem is that in firefox 3 and worse in Safari a horizontal scroll bar pops up in the middle of the screen (and stays in Safari) when the drop down menus pop up (i.e. are mouse-overed).

Also having trouble with spacing in Firefox (simple padding works in Safari).

Lastly, I'm a little uncertain how to (along with better way to space the nav bar links) make the drop down menus nicely uniform.

My biggest problem is the scroll bar though ... totally stumped by it.

Ignore the superfluous unordered list stuff in the middle, the stuff i'm using for the nav menu is at the bottom (#nav)

I'm quite new to this so I apologize for the banal question.

Forgive me, but I think you have your priorities a little mixed up. There is obviously difficulty with the drop-down. That does not hold a candle to the fact the page proper is broken in every browser on earth.

Delete the drop down for now. Concentrate on putting up a 2 col valid CSS and valid markup page that works in Opera, Safari, Firefox; and even IE/7. 0 and IE/6.0.

Once that is done, perhaps some one can assist in inserting the drop-down.

This is a stable layout and great tutorial. You might start here.

I don't see why not.

The main this is that the URL's in there cause this to come up during a search for the site, and its misleading!

The reason NO forum allows you to do this is because this isn't a personal service for any one person's one time use. It's an open help forum so others may learn from your questions and others answers.

Drop-down menus are the hottest thing since Wonder Bread but . . . 1. Alot of people put them in the they-look-nice-but-you-cant-code-them-right-so-they-always-look-messed-up category (a la "frames"). Do you think this is true> 2. Some people think they take up too much KB. 3. Some people are worried that people who have javascript turned off wont be able to see them. What percent of web users have javascrips turned off? I've implemented the horizontal drop down menu discussed recently in this newsgroup, and it works nicely under Galeon and Mozilla, but not IE 5.0. Here are the problems: Under IE 5.0, the there is no drop down menu functionality at all. I wanted to implement an alternative stylesheet for IE, but my link to it is apparently broken. What is wrong with my link? I'd

Hello there, I've a drop down menu (created using CSS & Javascript -- see code below). My problem is, whenever I click a link on the menu the new page replaces the current page (and the menu disappears). Is there a way, I can keep the menu always on top. ( A good example of what I'm looking for is similar to the menu bar in http://www.milonic.com/ ).

I have an javascript made menu and some forms with the dropdown element. When the menu opens and scrolls down the drop down is displeyed over the menu and obscures the menu choices. I have this problem only in IE, in firefox it works ok. Is there a solution to this problem? I tried to hide the drop down when the menu opens but sometimes the menu covers only a small part of the drop down, but enough to obscure the menu choice. I would...

Hi, I know i'm doing it wrong, but I'm using a while loop right now to create several instances of a drop down menu. It gives me undesirable results. Can you tell me the right way to do it. Below are a bit of information on what i did if you want t read it. When I choose select an option in the drop down menu and hit submit, I increase a counter, and a 2nd loop generates a second drop down menu with the same options. This is exactly what...

Do the search engines follow links that are within forms (like the drop-down menu) so that those pages are indexed? Here is the code for a sample drop-down menu that I created. <form><select name="menu" style="font-family:'Calligrapher';color:#993333;background-color:#FFFFFF;font-size:10pt;"><option value="http://www.localwebsolutions.com/local-business-marketing-online.html">Marketing Online</option><option...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
