IE6 page height problem

25 New Member
Hi, I've just developed a website which renders fine on Firefox, IE7 and Safari, but as usual has needed some surgery for IE6. I'm now left with a problem which I can't seem to fix. I have a footer which should should just attach to the bottom of my main container background image (as can be seen in IE7 and FF), but in IE6 the container div element seems to be adding space between the content div and the footer (and occasionally after the footer as well).

Any ideas on what's happening here? I've tried using height:auto for my main container div as i need the page to be able to expand depening on the volume of content. I've also tried changing this to height:100% but this doesn't fix the IE6 issue.

The site is www.taylorandhenderson.co.uk

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unrelated but these need to be fixed.

#gallery ul li .name{color:#FF FFFF; font-size:1.5em; float:left;marg in-right:10px;#}
#gallery ul li .job{color:#DD7 54C; font-size:1.5em;clea r:right;}
/*safari hack - bit filthy but have a problem floating name and job on same line*/
@media screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio:0) {
#gallery ul li .job{float:righ t;}
}

What does adding 'margin:0' directly on #footer or '#footer p' do?

All, I have a web form with 3 embedded panels, all working fine. However, I have now added a Checkbox where autopostback=true, and only the ascx pages on my page appear, none of the panels / tables do. It just doesnt make sense, looking at the source of the page in view i see <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" (plus a lot of text)

The below mangled garbage is a fixed text illustration. I'll try to describe the problem. This is a general web layout problem I've had for a while, not confined to this specific case. I would like to have a block of a fixed size (Say, a DIV on the top of the page of height 100px) and a block filling the rest of the page (in this example, a DIV with height of PAGE_HEIGHT - 100px). Is there any way to do this, either cleanly or hacked?...

I can't make this script work properly. I've gone as far as I can with it and the rest is out of my ability. I can do some html editing but I'm lost in the Java world. The script at the bottom of the html page controls the form fields that are required. It doesn't function like it's supposed to and I can leave all the fields blank and it still submits the form. Also I can't get it to transfer the file in the upload section. The file name...

Most suggestions on this topic recommend to use a page footer and make it visible only on the last page. My problem is that the footer is half of the height of a page which means the detail would show on only the top half of each page with whitepace at the bottom of each page. How can I get the detail to fill each page with my "half page height" report footer at the bottom of the last page? Any suggestions to solve this would be...

I've found a javascript menu download, I've been tweaking it within a testpage, and getting it to look just right. I finally got everything looking right, all I have to do is alter where the links navigate to. Before I do that I'm trying to get it put into the actual page I want to use it in; right now I've been using a blank html page to test it with. I've done everything just like it is in the test page, but the menu isn't appearing on the...

Hello Folks, Been trying to widen my site's body from "779" to "1000" so it almost fills the window. IE 7 on windows XP just dismantles the pages and leaves wide gaps between the left column and the body with no change in size to the body width. FF is doing it right. Please let me know if this problem can be fixed, I am at my wit's end. I will also send more code if needs be. I have lots of other code but I will copy and paste the one I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
