What do you think of my site's scheme?

I've been working on a site lately just for something to do. I'm going to post a thread soon to invite people to submit stories and poems for it (that's going to be a while i'm really busy). So I just wanted to see what everyone thought of the scheme for it.

It's not cross-browser compatable yet. So I ask that you view it in IE, i'm going to fix this VERY soon.

It may take a few seconds for the navagations hover image to completley load. So just keep the mouse over it until it does.

^_^ Thanks, Death

PS - Another example of how horrible IE is. My XHTML and CSS are valid and it looks retched in FF. (Yes the way it looks in IE is the way I want it to look). Also I know I shouldn't use IE as a reference but I can't use any other browser at the moment because the server where I am blocks everything but IE.

[EDIT] If anyone has suggestions on making the site better please let me know, i'de love to hear them. [/EDIT]

I don't see why you say it is wretched. Firefox is displaying what you wrote so I'm sure it's just an adjusted setting somewhere but IE looks easy to fix. Overall, the look of the site is interesting. Glad to see it all validates but because you didn't do this with Firefox I'm not talking to you anymore. ;)

interesting interesting. There is a quality to the background image that I like and your text/links blend in with it well. I know it's still barebones but you have a good start.

Rather than using a <p> for your heading, I would use <hx>, though, because that's what they are.

Looks good, would even better if the background wasn't tiled on wider monitors. Oh, and get rid of the that freebar, the best way to do this is take the smallest static freebar, set it's color to black, and place it in the bottom right corner or something, somewhere where people don't look.

Thanks, I wose hoping you would pick interestingly interesting (that was my favorite).

I'm in a strange but good mood right now. I'm kind of bored, well, at least I think I am. So I guess i'll start on the 'stories' page. I'll let you know when it's up.

^_^ Thanks, Death

What's better about Ruby than Python? I'm sure there's something. What is it? This is not a troll. I'm language shopping and I want people's answers. I don't know beans about Ruby or have any preconceived ideas about it. I have noticed, however, that every programmer I talk to who's aware of Python is also talking about Ruby. So it seems that Ruby has the potential to compete with and displace Python. I'm curious on what basis it...

I think everyone who used Python will agree that its syntax is the best thing going for it. It is very readable and easy for everyone to learn. But, Python does not a have very good macro capabilities, unfortunately. I'd like to know if it may be possible to add a powerful macro system to Python, while keeping its amazing syntax, and if it could be possible to add Pythonistic syntax to Lisp or Scheme, while keeping all of the...

I don't know if anybody already designed an URN scheme for XML; here is a proposal: I call it the "XML URN Scheme", or XUS. ========= URNs are logical names used to identify resources. XUS defines an URN Scheme for XML documents that works on a delegation model. As XUS (XML URN Scheme) is used exclusively for XML documents, it uses namespace URIs to identify this scheme and the delegate scheme.

I'm trying to arrive at a kind of "industry standard" or "best practice" approach to CSS for a policy document aimed at developers, but not necessarily very experienced developers. What does the CIWAS community think is the best way to go about styling documents for maximum compatibility/minimum problems with old browsers. We have a range of people currently using a range of techniques, i.e.

Oddly enough, I found it difficult, using Google, to find a list of best-of sites based on the quality of their css packages. So I'd ask. Does anyone know of particularly good sites which are in good measure because of their creative and useful css designs? I'm aware of Zen Garden and a few others. So don't bother with those. And I hope I don't get replies from people with a 'tin ear' and no design sense. Good sites. Good pages. That's...

in March, i posted a essay “What is Expressiveness in a Computer Language”, archived at: http://xahlee.org/perl-python/what_is_expresiveness.html I was informed then that there is a academic paper written on this subject. I am working on an electronic flashcard application. I have one version up and running using Visual Basic (6.0) and Access 2000. My long-range plans are to put it up on a website and sell subscriptions. But that is probably 2-3 releases away. In the meantime, I would like to put it up on the website for testing. I have been reading here and elsewhere that Access is not suitable for a web-based implementation. Is that because is was...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
