Hello. I have a horizontal navigation bar at the top of most of my web
site's pages. For the link that goes to a description of why I am called
"The Bicycling Guitarist," I use the text "TBG." Someone suggested to me
that if I put "About me" for the text instead of "TBG" it would be less
confusing to first time visitors. Any opinions?

nav bar is at the top of the page. The "TBG" button is the first visible
button (after the "skip links" in the html code).
On a related note, what do you think of putting that nav bar at the top of
my site map page at http://www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/sitemap.htm ? I
didn't put it there because I thought it was unnecessary, but somebody else
said they were surprised to visit the site map page and not find the same

Both of your questions are matters of style,
so there are no right and wrong answers.
However, as you asked, the TLA TBG is NBG.

One more question about user friendliness: currently I have each link to the
site map go to that section of the site map from which the page links. For
example, the link to the site map from www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/studies/eagles.htm
opens at the "Studies" section of the site map. The links from my song pages
open at the "R Band" section, etc.
Good idea / Bad Idea?

I wouldn't have a clue what "TBG" means.
There are people who click on everything that looks like a link, out
of curiosty, but I think most people won't click on a link unless it
looks like there's something worthwhile behind it.

There's something to be said for giving all pages the same basic
layout, or at least the same header look.
But the link to the site map from the site map page ought not to
change color when hovered.
Good point. I'll fix that soon once I successfully figure out exactly what

I made a navbar where the buttons light up when the user moves over
them. The only problem was in IE the buttons only light up when
hovering over the text.
This was not a problem in opera!
HOWEVER!
When I positioned my navbar directly at the top of the page it works
fine even in IE!
Moving the navbar down about double the height of the font being used
and then it stops working only highling the buttons when over the
text, weird no?
