Opinions sought on navbar text

Hello. I have a horizontal navigation bar at the top of most of my web
site's pages. For the link that goes to a description of why I am called
"The Bicycling Guitarist," I use the text "TBG." Someone suggested to me
that if I put "About me" for the text instead of "TBG" it would be less
confusing to first time visitors. Any opinions?

Sample page at http://www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/studies/eagles.htm The
nav bar is at the top of the page. The "TBG" button is the first visible
button (after the "skip links" in the html code).

On a related note, what do you think of putting that nav bar at the top of
my site map page at http://www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/sitemap.htm ? I
didn't put it there because I thought it was unnecessary, but somebody else
said they were surprised to visit the site map page and not find the same
nav bar at the top as on all the other pages.

Both of your questions are matters of style,
so there are no right and wrong answers.
However, as you asked, the TLA TBG is NBG.

Include it.

Mine is that something less cryptic would be good, yes.

Done and done. Thank you Martin and Blinky.

One more question about user friendliness: currently I have each link to the
site map go to that section of the site map from which the page links. For
example, the link to the site map from
www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/studies/eagles.htm
opens at the "Studies" section of the site map. The links from my song pages
open at the "R Band" section, etc.
Good idea / Bad Idea?

I wouldn't have a clue what "TBG" means.

There are people who click on everything that looks like a link, out
of curiosty, but I think most people won't click on a link unless it
looks like there's something worthwhile behind it.

There's something to be said for giving all pages the same basic
layout, or at least the same header look.

But the link to the site map from the site map page ought not to
change color when hovered.

I don't think it's a horrendously bad idea, but it seems a little odd
to me. When I click on "site Map" link, I usually expect to start at
the top level.

Good point. I'll fix that soon once I successfully figure out exactly what
to do. Shouldn't be too difficult...

Hello everyone I am trying to locate the sample files used in "A tour of the code - NavBar" for the redesign of the msdn online website in 1998. They were written and developed by Robert Carter and George Young and consist of several include files and css files, prepared for ASP. I located the documents in the MSDN Library Archive and this is very, very close to what I would like to do for our own website. The link for the sample downloads...

I made a navbar where the buttons light up when the user moves over them. The only problem was in IE the buttons only light up when hovering over the text. This was not a problem in opera! HOWEVER! When I positioned my navbar directly at the top of the page it works fine even in IE! Moving the navbar down about double the height of the font being used and then it stops working only highling the buttons when over the text, weird no?

I have a horizontal navbar between my banner and the page's main content (divided into three columns). Below the navbar, the left and right columns are fixed and the center is liquid. I want to position the navbar "li"s directly above the center column and make them liquid so they stretch and contract in correspondence with the center column. Is there a way to do this? Thanks. The styling I'm working with now is:

Hi all :) I have created a horizontal navbar using Xara Menumaker. The Menu items have several dropdown menus. Its a javascript. When the mouse cursor is moved over any menu item, a dropdown list/menu appears. When the page is opened in the browser (as it appears by default), the dropdown menu positions are correctly displayed. But when I scroll the page and then move the mouse over any menu item of the navbar, the dropdown menu is not...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
