HTML/CSS Menus - loading pages in Divs

There are several menus on the Listamatic site - for example this Horizontal Menu . The links for the menu items are in the form
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <li><a href="#">Item five</a></li>
My page is laid out with CSS/Divs. So how do I get the menu items to load an htm page in a Div? I looked, but did not find, a tutorial on this - if you know of one pls let me know. I may switch to a Dynamic Ajax Content menu - which includes menu/DIV links that work. But I would like to understand how the menu templates I find - which often use the code above - are made to load a htm page in a Div. --- thanks

The only way to load a div with content that way is with js, but the content is already there, just hidden and later exposed. Another way is to use an iframe, not a div. But iframes are frames so you need to be aware of issues with using frames, such as difficulty to bookmark them.

Thanks.
Do you have an idea how the menu templates are meant to be used? I am interested in using them, and will study/learn what I need to know... but I am not sure what I need to study. Is the idea with these menu templates that you need to create your own JS for them?

Thanks again.

I recently had the displeasure of looking at the code required to implement the pop-up menus used in a pulldown menu system for a webpage. The sheer amount of Javascript required was amazing and frankly revolting. It is as though the software "engineers" have been thrown out and replaced with "programmers". That is to say, it is a sophomoric hack job, a hideous kludge.

Hi all, I was always told that the conversion of Word files to HTML as done by Word itself sucks - you get a lot of unnecessary code that can influence the design on web browsers other than Internet Explorer. Our computer expert in my company had told me already a while ago that I should learn HTML and encode myself. I was never inclined to do so (I am no computer expert), and when upon his suggestion I looked how my pages (converted to...

Hello - I have a web app currently has regular links down the left-hand side of the pages. They are attached to a database and put into an ascx so all I have to do is change the database info to change all links on all pages. This works fine, however, it looks funky. I am using VS 2003, which has no way of making decent menus that I'm aware of.

Hello, I am breaking my head running out of ideas about the best solution to my goal. I want to load some pages generated with the server (ASP) and assign their html results to JavaScript, so users could click the links and the content of any selected page would show up immediately, making no requests. So, I have one main page called mainpage.asp which, I think, should get all subpages with content, names are subpage1.asp, subpage2.asp,...

Hello webies, I have a problem with loading html pages in frameset. I am using location.href to load html pages one by one upon the user request and these pages in turn load flash files. Can this white screen be avoided by any chance or can the frameset background be set to some background image...

Please check out my javascript library that allows you to create any layout for your web page, nested as deep as you like, adjusting to width and height of a browser window. You just describe it in javascript object and that's all. No need to know CSS hacks, no need to clutter your html with tables. http://www.bravelayout.scarabeo.biz/Quickstart

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
