FORM elements - Name & ID - are both of these necessary.

55 New Member
Why do we need to use Name and ID elements in a FORM tag? Why can't I just use ID, which will be easier?

Cheers

'name' is for backwards compatibility only. Just use 'id'.

Drhowarddrfine,

If you do not include a name for an input field, will the ID be available in the post or get array? I've never tried that, but I thought that in input fields, the name is what becomes available in the post array.

Thanks,

For the input tag, yes. But he asked about the <form> element.

I'm passing numerous array elements called list when a form is submitted. the brackets are necessary for PHP to see all the values as an array. The problem is I can't seem to reference the form elements from javascripts because of the brackets. For example, form.list.value is no good. Anyone know a way around this? Thanks.

HI. in asp.net app, I have an xmlDocument that I transform to the client html. Using xsl I create a few textboxes to capture user input. Each of these are related to <data> elements in the xmlDoc. I want to use the Forms collection to post the html form back to an asp.net page, and process each request.form object (textbox) via an xml node.value update. For any given xmlDocument there is an unknown number of items resulting in...

Hello guys, now that I'm that I'm working on my first major 'open' forms (with uncontrolled users I mean, not a secure backend-interface), I'd like to add a lot of possibilities to check wether certain fields match certain criteria, and inform the user in different ways when the data is wrong (offcourse, this will be checked on posting the data again, but that's something I've got a lot of experience with). Now, offcourse it's...

Hi All; I, like others, have been frustrated with designing forms that look and flow the same in both IE and Firefox. They simply did not scale the same. I have discovered, to my chagrin, that IE7 does not seem to offer any way to control the font size of a text input element.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
