markup translates visually in Dreamweaver but not in Safari/Opera browsers

1 New Member
I'm very new to this website design and following along Elizabeth Castro's book to learn. When I apply a local style to an image the visual effect relays in Dreamweaver CS3 (9.0) with no errors in validation or browser compatibilty. But when I open the file in Safari or Opera the local style effects do not relay. In fact, the previous style:text/css set at the top of the page doesn't show. Anyone know why?

Here's how I wrote it:

THIS I WROTE AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE AND RELAYS TO THE FIRST THREE IMAGES ON THE PAGE

<style type="text/css"> img {border: double #CCCC33;} </style>

HERE'S HOW I WROTE THE LOCAL STYLE FOR A SINGLE IMAGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE WHICH IS DISPLAYED IN DREAMWEAVER BUT NOT SAFARI OR OPERA. I DON'T HAVE IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO IE.

<img src="venus-copy.jpg" alt="Venus de Buenos Aires" width="300" height="500" style="border:t hick;color:rgb( 92,223,218)"
align="right"/>

ANY IDEAS?

Do you mean the borders? Inline styles override everything else.

Somebody on here recommended Dreamweaver with PHP. I am coming from (still using really) ASP and ASP.NET. PHP is more like ASP and not a whole lot like .net, but I wanted to know how Dreamweaver will help me with PHP. Is it easier to make a website "prettier" with Dreamweaver? Just need guidance on why to use Dreamweaver with PHP. I am using HTML kit or notepad and, of course, Google. Usually use the languages and objects for hitting...

As well all know, valid markup is important... but when trying to find a convincing modern argument in favor of this, I found pages like http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/reasons.html which was very nice when Netscape ruled the World Wide Web, and http://valet.htmlhelp.com/page/why.html which is very suggestive but does not really give any factual example. Is there something to be _shown_ to people who ask "why validate?"? A page...

Ok I went through and deleted code until I discovered the culprit. I then went back to my original style sheet and removed the CSS declaration that caused the floating to brake in safari 1.2. Once I removed it, the floating worked as expected in safari, but broke it in opera 7.5. The interesting part is the style declaration that causes safari to brake is the declaration I had used to fix the bug in Opera 7.5 originally. As far as I...

document...focus() will scroll the form to move the specified text field into view on everything I have tried it with except Safari on the MAC. The form doesn't move. Any work around? Thanks.

Hi, I just did a bunch of testing and was surprised with the results. If anyone doesn't know this stuff here is what I found about event.clientX. The event.clientX property in Safari is in page coordinates. In IE, Opera, Firefox event.clientX it is in window coordinates. This means a lot when trying to determine event location in page

I've been using the unload event for a long time. I have this code, which I've abstracted and made into a stripped down simple test case below, and it works fine on the major browsers (IE5+, Firefox, Opera). It also works for all Safari versions before 3.1. It's as if they've deliberately made a change to prevent some actions in the unload handler. Has anyone heard of such a restriction? Here's the test case:

I just want to take a moment to say thank you to so many of you who posted a response to my request for help about the problem with THE GAP (see below?)! Your suggestions were not only a solution to the problem, but they were given in a way that encouraged further learning about the subject and gave me more information that helped me move forward today. I have actually gotten the page to work with the same style sheet for ff, opera,...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
