Same index page for Subdomain as Main Domain? And with certain fields changed?

4 New Member
Hi,

On Yahoo! web hosting, we are able to create subdomains, like:

1. yourplace.me.co m
2. myplace.me.com
3. ourplace.me.com

as subdomains of a site, e.g., www.me.com

Qn1.
Would you know how to make the index page of ww.me.com, be the same as the index pages of all the subdomains? Currently, I have to manually copy the entire contents of the index folder and paste it into the subdirectory, which are \yourplace or \myplace.
Is there an automatic way to make the pages of the subdomain be the same set of pages as the main domain?

Qn2.
Might you be able to change a particular field of text in the pages of the subdomains? For example, in:

www.me.com, the welcome message will be: Welcome to me.com!

and in yourplace.me.co m, the welcome message will me: Welcome to yourplace!

in ourplace.me.com , it will be, Welcome to ourplace!

Only the welcome message will be changed. The rest of the page, like say the contents, is the same.

I would be ever so grateful for a reply, because I need it for an urgent assignment. Looking forward to your answers.

:) Cheers,
Nex

Question 1:
I don't know how yahoo does things, but check to see if you can do domain forwarding. If so you can make all your subdomains redirect to your main.

Question 2:
Yes you can do that your going to need to learn server side scripting.

Hi Aric,

Thanks for the help!

Would you able to tell me what language to learn to be able to change those variables? Might I be able to google an answer out? If yes, waht do I need to search for? :P

I have tried numerous attempts under google searching under: "changing variables in subdomain", but no results.

Cheers,
Nex

Hi PHP People, When using mail() with a TO address that includes a subdomain, as in foo@sub.domain.com, the intended recipient never receives the mail. I'm not sure if this is a problem with mail() or a misconfiguration of the mail program (postfix on dev server, qmail on production server), but foo@sub.domain.com doesn't receive any mail, while foo@domain.com gets it every time.

please keep the flaming to a minimum (a bucket of water is next to me) but I have a question someone here might be able to explain in basic terms for a dunce like me. I helped a friend put together a website that uses his domain name and url directs to my server. It has a (sorry) flash intro page that continues to his main page. When I click on a navigation button, the address reverts back to my webpage address. Without using shitty frames...

I have a form, primary subform and secondary subform. A tab control takes up all the area of the primary subform. There are about 15 tabs on the tabcontrol. Each tab contains fields from the same table. Related fields appear on each tab. There is one field in the table that needs to be displayed at all times so I created the secondary subform (subform to main form) to display just that one field. Data entry is main form - secondary subform...

I am facing 'Cross Domain Security' within Frame. Its the 'Same Origin Policy ' issue. I have a frame which adjusts its height according to the height of the document. This works fine for all types of document. However if the document from different domain is loaded in the frame the code fails to calculate the height or access any property of that document owing to the simple reason that document belongs to different domain. And...

Hello Everybody, In my web application I have created an interface where, if any user register then a subdomain will be created with the user name of the user link this manner E.G. :- http://subdomain.domain.com This works fine. I have a question about subdomains. I would like my website to have subdomains that essentially show my regular main website, except that the subdomain passes as a variable on all pages so that I can use the subdomain as a variable to customize details. For example, the home page at www.thesite.com would have a set of information displayed, but the subdomain (subdomain.thesite.com) would display certain additional details. Am I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
