Looks like the common corporate disconnection between what the business
does, and who they get in to do this task in for their own use. I've
worked for a major Unix vendor in the past where their own site (built
by some vastly over-priced portal-monger) was strictly IE-only.

Visit the furniture gallery at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Notice the number of chairs, sofas, etc. that are visually and
conceptually striking yet that would be hopelessly uncomfortable to sit on.

I once bought a beautifully designed can opener that I threw out after
I'd used it twice because it was difficult to use without getting my
fingers pinched.

For anything meant to be used rather than just observed, design schools
ought to be teaching function along with form.

The first URL: 1 detected XHTML error*, 2 CSS errors.

The second URL: 28 XHMTL errors, 1 CSS error.

* The detected XHMTL error was the lack of a Doctype declaration.
However, I looked at the source. There is a <linkelement before the
<HTMLdeclaratio n! Further, the entire page content (other than the
navigation at the bottom) is one large Flash presentation.
