Cross browser issues

I'm afraid of the answer I am going to get.

I am working on my website on a Mac, and I don't know anything about making things work cross browser. Please dumb it down for me.

One of the problem pages

So, I can't get the page to render correctly in IE. It looks a little bad on the mac version (the little yellow dot in the top left corner is the "image"), but on the pc version it is horrible. On IE on the pc the image appears, but the right column isn't holding up.

Please help.

(Things were... slightly skew, but it got worse with the java script for the roll over image, but the java script shouldn't effect the right column.)

Validate and fix your html errors , then validate and fix your css errors.

Why are you using a loose doctype? All new pages should always use strict.

I forgot to add that you are using Xhtml ending tags but a html doctype. Remove the slashes />. That's creating some of your problems.

I'm developing a site for a charity which I am aiming to make standards-compliant, accessible and cross-browser compatible. I'm doing OK so far and have the workings of a respectable site, but I still have a few little niggly problems: Site: http://www.aif-advocacy.org.uk/index.asp CSS: http://www.aif-advocacy.org.uk/aif.css

Good afternoon, Does anyone have any code that implements, or approaches implementing, a cross-browser DHTML/JS solution to provide an Excel-like Grid on a web page - I'm trying to convert an old Java client/server data maintenance program to the web - the main display is in a grid format, which allows the user to select multiple rows and edit them in a new grid, which processes each grid line individually and validates and saves the...

I'm having a hell of a job getting this to work in Safari: the only thing I can think of is that one can't use reload() across to another frame for security reasons. Does anyone have a concrete answer or solution for this? I'm trying to do this: top.frames.location.reload(); Thanks Mark Howells www.permanenttourist.ch

Hi, Does anyone have a a cross-browser setOpacity function that does not use browser sniffing? I looked at the Yahoo! UI function and it detects IE by looking for window.ActiveXObject. I also looked at Scriptaculous and it uses navigator.userAgent. Thanks, Peter

I've tried searching the web but I've had little success finding a cross-browser(IE, Firefox and Opera anyway) implementation of a restricted text INPUT that works in realtime before a character is even displayed in the field. Is there a working implementation anywhere? And how about denial of cross-browser pasting? On Windows a popup menu appears with the clipboard pasting options and I'd like to disable that and CTRL-V in an INPUT...

I've been developing a little web page full of JavaScript while using Firefox and it works well but when I try to view it in Opera and IE, it's incomplete. I suspect cross-browser issues in the DOM but how do you *find* them; neither Opera nor IE seem to have a JavaScript console as Firefox does. Am I missing something?

Hi All, An experiment i'm doing requires requires a synchronous cross-domain request, without using a proxy. I wondered if anyone had any ideas to help me achieve this. Below is what I have tried, including my conclusions/assumptions (which i'll happily be corrected on if it solves my problem!): The requirement not to use a proxy means I can't use the synchronous

I'm guessing this is a laughably obvious answer to many here, but it's not to me (and I don't have a server or any knowledge of PHP to be able to try it). It's not strictly a PHP question, but something that PHP guys would know the answer to. I can't think of a more appropriate forum to try. I've heard the ASP and JSP guys aren't as friendly ;-) Let's say we have a HTML page from domain example.com, and that HTML page makes a request to...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
