Problem: IE renders list boxes always in the foreground and covers my DHTML menu

Using a DHTML dropdown menu, blocks of menu items should be displayed on
top of the page to let the user choose a menu item.

So, on top of my page (no matter how it is constructed), there should be
the menu box showing up as the foreground object, hiding the other page
elements beneath it while it is open.

The problem is that the underlying page contains list boxes (<select>
elements). Internet Explorer draws these list boxes ALWAYS ON TOP, ie
covering my menu which should actually be the top element.

In Firefox/Opera it works fine.

Here is an example:

Please could you give me a hint how this can be solved?

TIA

Such things happen. Form fields are often rendered by built-in system
routines that know nothing about CSS or that can be affected by CSS in some
respects only.
Please could you give me a hint how this can be solved?

Stop creating the problem. Don't user such overlays. Give each element a
place of its own. Remember to check that the page is completely functional
without CSS, too.

But if i use the menu with firefox the menu opens, but if i move the mouse pointer over the menu-entries and i come to the are where the i-frame is below the menu, the mousout-event is fired and the menu closes. Does anybody have an idea how to fix the problem?

Hi I have designed a simple DHTML menu which comes over a flash animation when it appears. I have set the window mode as transparent in the flash project. This menu is showing fine when seen with IE, Netscape, Firefox. Yet in Opera the menu is going behind the flash animation. Can anyone suggest a solution to solve this issue. Thanks

Hi, I've been looking at some code for dependent list boxes to adapt to a State and City list. There will only be 2 states for the first list box, and 3 cities in the second list box. When the state is selected, the relative cities appear in the second box. I found a nice set of code online that was derived from Dreamweaver code and have altered it to simplify for my minimal needs. I have learned a lot of coding from looking at...

Greetings, I have been muddling my way through developing a DHTML menu. I finally have something workable. My problem now is that I have implemented my menus in a DIV that overlaps my 'master' DIV. The master DIV is visible when the menu's are not activated but once I mouse over one of my menus the master DIV gets obscured by the menu DIV. To boot this only happen on IE. Everything appears to render fine in FF and Opera. I wonder where I...

Greetings, I have a nagging problem with client-side dynamic dependent list boxes that perhaps someone can help me troubleshoot. I have a form with a series of dynamic dependent list boxes. Making a selection from list/box A (Qtr) selects a fiscal quarter, which then refreshes the values in list/box B (Mth), which shows the 3 months in that fiscal quarter, which then refreshes the values in list/box C (MthDate), which returns the date...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
