Hot Trends in Browser Technology -- one topic at XTECH 2005

IDEAlliance's XTech 2005 to Cover Hot Trends in Browser Technology

As Mozilla, Google, Flickr, Microsoft and Others Redefine Web
Interfaces, Conference Will Feature Insights and Perspective from
Field's Top Thought Leaders

Alexandria, Va. - April 14, 2005 - XTech 2005, the premier European
conference for developers and managers working with XML and Web
technologies, will feature top minds covering one of the most dynamic
- and controversial - topics in the industry: the radical changes
taking place in Web browser technology. XTech 2005 (formerly XML
Europe) is being held 24-27 May, 2005, at the Amsterdam RAI Centre,
Amsterdam, Netherlands.

"The Web browser is a hot topic again," says Edd Dumbill, XTech
2005 conference chair. "As supporters of 'Ajax'-style Web
technology create ever more powerful applications, traditional
graphical user interfaces face strong competition. At XTech, we'll
address the future of Web-based interfaces head on."

Leading off on Wednesday, 25 May are sessions from two of the strongest
competitors in the field, both of whom have clear ideas about the
future of user interfaces. Rob Relyea, lead program manager with
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) will explain XAML, Microsoft Window's new user
interface platform. Ben Goodger, lead engineer for Mozilla Firefox,
will counter with a presentation on XUL, Mozilla's user interface
toolkit.

The keynote speakers at XTech 2005 will be Paula Le Dieu, Co-Director,
Creative Archive, BBC; Jean Paoli, Senior Director of XML Architecture,
Microsoft; and Mike Shaver, Mozilla Foundation.

Hi there, First off, let me say that I know that launching to full screen is a bad idea. I would never do it given the choice, but I must follow orders from my boss, the boss that desparately wants a desktop application made out of Internet technologies. We're writing an application that has JavaScript enabled as a client machine requirement. We need to support Windows with IE 5+ and Netscape 7+ plus Mac with IE 5+ and Netscape 6.2+.

I'm working on a project to collect web application usage statistics. What are the recommended ways of detecting whether a browser is JavaScript enabled and/or capable? Obviously I can write a script to invoke something on the server, and if it works, then it works. Is there a better way? I'm looking for the least intrusive way of doing it, from a web application point of view. i.e. I'd like to be able to drop this into an existing...

Can inference search-engines narrow-down the number of often irrelevant results, by using specific keywords; for the purpose of discerning emerging social & business trends? For example, if authors of content subconsciously mention the keywords "lately and noticed" within the same brief sentence, the reader may infer "an unintended message" through the process of "inferential scanning;" a method of noting "semantic anomalies" which may...

I'd like to write a PHP script to be used from the command line on a Unix machine. I'd like for the script to put together a string, turn it into a web page, print it, then return control the command line. Obviously it is quite easy to make a string that is valid HTML and send it to the printer. The tough part is making look like a web page. In particular, image tags should print out as images, not image tags. Does anyone have an idea...

Hi; My ASP.NET app (C# calling J# under .net 2.0) creates a png file in a subdirectory to display as part of the created page. However, the bitmap will not display due to a security violation. Everything is the default settings I believe. IIS is running under Local System. In IIS the DefaultAppPool is running under Network Service. Annonymous access uses the account IUSR_JASMINE (machine name is Jasmine).

Google Trends is an all new service (started May 10) and I have not responsability for proper query or data accuracy. Overall seems pretty close to what could be observed by the post history in c.l.j. Just curious why exactly Japan got so exclusively hot on JSON ? <http://www.google.com/trends?q=AJAX+JavaScript&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all> <http://www.google.com/trends?q=JSON+JavaScript&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all>

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
