Go away for a few days and you miss it all... A few opinions...
Programming is a craft more than an art (software engineering, not
black magic) and as such, is about writing code that works, first
and foremost. If it works well, even better. The same goes for
ease of maintenance, memory footprint, speed, etc, etc. Most of the
time, people are writing code for a use in the *real world*, and
not just as an academic exercise.
Look at...

I'm trying to have some text in my page changed by clicking
a button. Googleing around I've discovered that innerText
doesn't work with every browser, so I've switched to
innerHTML. It works fine on IE and Opera, but nothing
happens on Firefox (just updated to version 1.0.4).
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance! C.

Hi all,
I'm writing a C# app that uses copy/paste to put graphics in a window.
My copy/paste logic first looks for Metafile, then for bitmap.
Here's the problem: when I copy and paste a WMF clip from the organizer
(in Word or standalone) into my app I get a nice high-res image the
first time I copy a particular clip. The second time I get a very
low-res copy, presumably the same resolution as the thumbnail. In Word
or PowerPoint it...

Hi!
I've been programming ASP for 5 years and am now learning PHP.
In ASP, you can use GetRows function which returns 2 by 2 array of
Recordset.
Actually, it's a recommended way in ASP when you access DB as it
disconnects the DB earlier.
Also, it's handy as you can directly access any data in the array
without looping.

In CSS:
clip: px|% px|% px|% px|%
How can I set it in javascript?
I have tried x.style.clip.top, x.style.clip.left ...
However, it seems no effect.

i see C FAQs are very important part of learning C. whole C FAQs are
available as a book (1st edition) in my area at a little cost.
is it a good idea to purchase C FAQs book, published in 1996 ?
i am asking because my experience says hard-copies are better than
online copies but this one was published 10 years ago.

Can someone help me out with this.
Here is what i am trying to do. I have an image of size 310x310. Initially i am displaying only 50x50 using clip property. Later using setTimeout property i am trying to get the entire image so that it looks like animation. But this doesn't happen with the code below
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">

I have an image with a class and the class defines a clip rectangle.
In Firefox 2 and 3, and Opera 9, I can access the rectangle with
document.defaultView.getComputedStyle().
But that doesn't seem to work in Safari for Windows 3, nor when I use
image.currentStyle.clip in IE 7.
Is there a way to do this in those browsers? Am I doing something stupid?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
