Interesting dilemma....imag e sizing problem

Considering the code below.

Adapting this part of the code from meyerweb.com to my own use, I was
playing around with some values and came up with an interesting result I
like.
Copy and paste the code and try it out and you'll see what I mean.
The problem is, somehow in the coding, my thumbnails can not be presented as
they are given.
The dimensions of the thumbnails are totally dependent upon the fixed value
of the height in the first line.
I would like to show the thumbnails in their original sizes, but can't seem
to figure it out.
Using the code as is presents problems for showing the thumbnails as they
should be.
Setting a fixed height and width, causes some images to be shown out of
whack.
What can be done to correct this problem?
div#links { width: 166px; height:600px; font: 13pt Arial, Verdana,
sans-serif; }
div#links a {display: block; text-align: left; font: bold 1em Arial,
sans-serif;
padding: 5px 5px; margin: 0 0 1px; border-width: 0;
text-decoration: none; color: #FFC; background: #F44;
}
div#links a:hover {color: #F11; background: #AAA;
border-right: 5px double white;}

div#links a img { height:0px; width:0px; border-width: 0;}
div#links a:hover img { width:100px; height:60px;}

<div id="links">
<a href="#">Bar Red<img src="images/thmb001.jpg"></a>
<a href="#">Cat's Eye Nebulae<img src="images/thmb002.jpg"></a>
<a href="#">Magell anic Cloud<img src="images/thmb003.jpg"></a>
</div>

I'm hoping that someone can explain what's going on; better yet provide a workaround. I'm designing a centered CSS site based on a 550 pixel wide vertical background image. Onto this background I built a two column layout with nested navigation and content divs. The background image is centered via "background: ... center;", the divs are centered over it via "margin: 0 auto 0 auto;". The problem I'm having in IE6 is inconsistent...

I need some help here. I am making an application which allows a user to look at a series of picture files one at a time, and enter the outcome of various visual tests to a database. The application is based on mysql and php on a remote server, and is accessed by the user via a web browser, primarilly IE. The image file names are built up by the server side php scripts, and so a URL for the image file is created, but the file itself is...

I am the owner of a very large scale member-base website and the members are having trouble re-sizing there pics to create headshots. The headshots are supposed to be 175 x 175 pixels exactly. We get alot of people trying to re-size their own images and unfortunatley they don't have photo skills and the images never get uploaded because they are usually off a few pixels when trying to upload the headshot. So the headshot's usually don't...

I wish to place an image of a word of text in the middle of a sentence, but need to adjust the vertical position of the image so that it looks inline with the text. I have tried unsuccesfully to do this with margins and padding on both the text and the image. Can someone put me out of my misery and tell/show me how to do this. TIA Brian Tozer

I'm using VS 2005. When user selects a image from the FileListBox, the code is PictureBox.ImageLocation = sFullPath PictureBox is set to AutoSize. Hi, Your opinion please on the following subject: Is it acceptable to set the width and height of an image in ems or percents in CSS? The advantage for me is that images will scale up or down when the user changes the font size in the browser. But what of the disadvantages? In (X)HTML, the img-element will have a pixel-value for the width and height-attributes.

I want to retrieve an image file (TIF) convert it to a bmp file and enable sizing. I know how to do the converting & sizing part, and store any atributes to file location in the webconfig, what I don't know is how to get the image file. The only way that I've got it working was to Impersonate a user login at the other server.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
