Help: need CSS instead of nested html tables

Ok. I give up. I appeal to the css gurus out there for their
benevolence.

I'm trying to center some text on an arbitrary vertical on a page
using CSS instead of nested tables. It seems so easy but I can't
figure it out. If you cut and paste the following html code you will
see that the 'Centered Text' is center by using a nested table and
setting some widths. How can I accomplish the same thing without the
inner-most table?

Thanks in advance.
Dave

Here is the code...
<HTML>
<BODY>

<table border="1" width="500">
<tr>
<td width="25%" align="right">
Some Text A
</td>
<td>
Some Text B
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2">
<table width="50%" border="1">
<tr>
<td align="center">
Centered Text
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="25%" align="right">
Some Text C
</td>
<td>
Some Text D
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2">
<table width="50%" border="1">
<tr>
<td align="center">
More Centered Text
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

</html>

Dave,

You are more likely to get help if you put the html up to a page
and post an URL.

I inherited a simple page that needs to be Strict HTML and I'm not very familiar with this standard. What I'm trying to do _should be_ pretty simple so I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I'm trying to make a table with 2 columns split down the middle - simple enough. In the past, without Strict HTML, I would just specify the width of each 'cell' as 50%, but width isn't allowed in a <td> under Strict HTML. Sometimes I...

(I posted this in ADO group, but I think this group will be better) Hi- I need to develop an FAQ section for our website. We would like to break up the FAQ by products, then categories with each category having n question/answer pairs. I would like to pass parameters in the querystring based on what the product/category the user selected, then populate a datagrid with the correct set of question/answer

SHORT VERSION ============= I have a bunch of identical fixed-size single-celled tables that rest against each other horizontally thanks to "float:left". These tables are dynamically generated and the number of them can vary greatly. They are all contained within a parent table cell, which is centred on the page. But I am unable to find a way of centering these table cells within the parent cell.

Here is my situation. I am coding in an AJAX framework for an intranet application behind a vpn. Therefore, I can't give you a URL for the actual app. I made a sample app for viewing and am looking for ideas. The sample app is at www.sheldonlg.com/currentPeriod.htm. This sample app does NOT exhibit the problem. I put it there so that I can talk to the you about the problem. In the actual app, initially a bunch of empty divs are...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
