Password too short?

I am trying to install DB2 connect V 8.2 on my new Windows XP PC, a
Dell Optiplex GX620 with 4GB of RAM. I have installed this version of
DB2 connect on other Windows XP PC's without any problem.

I get to the Set user information for the DB2 Administration Servedr
window. I use the default user of "db2admin". I am using the same 8
character password I've used on other installations.

I get the following message, copied out of the db2wi.log:

The installation program has been unable to create the user "db2admin"
on computer "OIS-0700108361" because the password specified is too
short.

I've tried various passwords of different lengths, and I get the same
message. I'm sure there's some other problem causing this message to
appear, but I don't know where to start looking.

I've looked through the DB2 UDB V8.2 for Windows .pdf manual, but I
haven't found anything helpful.

If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate reading them.

Try creating the user and password via Windows administration before the
install. DB2 uses the ids and passwords controlled by the OS.

I never had to do that before, but your post gave me an idea. I
followed the password rules of my organization to create the password,
and that worked.

For some reason, the password rules of my organization are now enforced
on the PC, where they weren't before. It wasn't that the password was
short, it was that it didn't meet the rules.

Thanks for your post, and sorry for my double post. Internet glitch, I
guess.

Just remember that DB2 uses OS ids and passwords.
