Collecting DB2 performance results for my thesis paper

As part of my thesis for my MSc Course with the Open University UK, I
need to collect various performance statics for IBM's DB2 database on
Windows.

To this end I have developed a performance test script (DB2 pl/sql)
and questionnaire to poll the DB2 database community; to see the
viability in developing a generic relational database performance
benchmark; that can be used during the database design phase of a
project.

The idea of this benchmark is to develop a heuristic (rule of thumb)
benchmark to answer the ‘What if’ type of performance questions. E.g.
how much does performance degrade for load/import etc when adding one/
two or even three indexes etc. Then to see if this type of information
can help improve the database design phase of a project.

For this to provide any meaningful results I need to gather a large
number of performance statics for as many DB2 databases as possible.

Therefore if you could visit my site at http://ericdavidsonca.bravehost.com/index.html
, download the performance script and fill in the questionnaire it
would help me immensely.

I will be providing a copy of my thesis next June to all participants
who wish to receive a copy.

Thank you.

Hello all, I'm in a poition of trying to justify use of the STL from a performance perspective. As a starting point, can anyone cite any benchmarks comparing vectors to plain old statically-declared arrays? I'll also be looking at the other STL containers later... Also, I'd appreciate any comments anyone has on the suitability of the little program below for comparing vectors and arrays. One obvious shortcoming is that it uses...

I am looking for some published paper regarding database performance tunning performance strategies. This is for academic purpose so it needs not to be any commerical database specific. It will be even better if the paper has some kind of methods to quantify/measure performance. Has anyone come across with any interesting paper about this? Thanks, ewong

Howdy, I currently develop the javascript toolkit qooxdoo (http://qooxdoo.sourceforge.net), some of you heard it already. We have discovered a slowdown on Internet Explorers performance when creating objects with some data and store them in a global object registry. It take some time to get this example extracted from our codebase. The attached file (take a look at it please) shows the exact problem. The time for each object increases...

Hi, I'm facing the problem of analyzing a memory allocation dynamic and object creation dynamics of a very big C++ application with a goal of optimizing its performance and eventually also identifying memory leaks. The application in question is the Mozilla Web Browser. I also have had similar tasks before in the compiler construction area. And it is easy to come up with many more examples, where such kind of statistics can be very...

Does anyone know of a white paper or have actual results where the speed of running database inserts, updates, and/or selects (returning datasets) thru web services versus running the same activity over a dedicated MS local network. I would assume that web services must be slower than a dedicated local network, but by how much? Thanks in advance, Dean Slindee

Hi All, (First my apologies for this kind of "spam" message. But for my thesis this will be my once in a lifetime spam moment... ) At the moment I have to graduate for my master in Business Information Management and need to do a survey for my thesis. The thesis is about Web vs. Desktop based applications and the differences perceived by the user. So not from the management/technology point of view but from the end-user. I focus now...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
