Create Database privilege at an instance for user/group

Hi,

How do I give create database privielege to a specific user/group at a
particular db2 instance ?
I read about various authorities like SYSCTRL etc. but I am interested
in giving only Create database privilege.

I also came across GRANT <system privilege statement and it seems I
can execute following statement to achieve what I want,
GRANT CREATEDBA to <authorizatio n-name>

I have few queries about above statement,
1. Is it possible to have a group-name as authorization-name? and if
yes then does all the users of the group get the createdba privilege
after executing above statement?
2. when I open db2 CLP, and try to execute above statement, a error is
shown that "A database connection does not exist". isn't this privilege
independent of database? why should I connect to database to execute
this statement.

Jatinder

Jatinder,

Depends on your platform. On LUW you can't do that, CREATE DATABASE
requires a minimum of SYSCTRL, which as you note gives other
privileges, too. CREATEDBA is z/OS specific, as I understand it, and
it's been a long, long time since I worked with that so I can't help
you there.

In DB2 for LUW, you certainly can grant privileges to a group.

Hi ! I am trying to install oracle 9i Standard edition on a windows 2000 SP4 machine. I get through the entire installation up to running the Database Configuration Assistant. While it tries to make the database, it gets to the "Creating and starting Oracle instance" stage, and then the errors start. I get: ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed. ORA-00205: error in identifying control file. check alertlog for more

I know, this kind of question has already been asked. However, I could not find an answer related to the minimal privilege required to be able to create a new event Source in the appplication event log. I have a service app that needs to access shares (therefore, I cannot not start it using the System account). This service needs not to be run with particular privilege. So, I use a account member of users' group. Doing so will fail...

I am confused between Authentication at Instance Vs Authentication at Database. Instance authentication is specified at Instance creation time (db2icrt) and is stored in db mgr. cfg. file while Database authentication is specified during the Catalog Database command. So far, so good. But when do each of the authentications come into "picture"? For example, when a remote client attempts to access a database, does it first authenticate at...

On my DB2 UDB 8.2.7 database user User1 has been granted IMPLICIT_SCHEMA privilege, but when he issues "create schema test", the error message "SQL0552N, USER1 does not have the previliege to execute the operation create schema" was thrown. But if he issues "create table test.test(a int)", the operation can execute successfully. So how can I let users issue the create schema statement.

At first glance it seems like a good idea to use the new RESTRICTIVE option when creating a database to remove public access otherwise granted by default. Then one could grant the required access to specific users. But what about things like these which are normally granted by default to public if the RESTRICTIVE option is not used: 1. EXECUTE WITH GRANT privilege on all functions and procedures in the SYSPROC schema - Allows the user...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
