db2 v8 install hangs on windows XP pro

I have a laptop with windows xp 1 gig ram 2.0 pentium M. When I run
the db2 personal edition version 8.2 the install gets to the first
screen and says windows installer is preparing to install. There is a
back next and cancel button on the screen at the bottom. The next and
the back are disabled and the cancel is the only one that is available.
If I click cancel it prompts are you sure. If I say yes the install
dialog stays. I have to go into task manager to remove the dialog.
However it leaves a background process running and I can't start to
attempt the install again until I reboot. Each time the install stops
at the same place.

I have tried to install from a directory and burning it to a disk and
redownloading the install. All end in the same issue.

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure there is enough info here to diagnose the problem. Your best
bet is to run the setup in trace mode (which I don't remember how offhand
for Windows), and open a PMR with IBM and send them the log file and trace
file for diagnosis.

What version of Win are you running? Verify that you are installing a
version of DB2 that is compatible with your operating system.

During install the folder DB2LOG is created in the default 'My
Documents' folder. It contains the files db2.log and the db2wi.log
which might give some more information about what went wrong.
If it doesn't help you can run the setup.exe with the parm '-t
<tracefile>' to get a trace.

I am using xp pro servicepack 2. I have double checked the download is
compatible with xp pro. I have also attempted to install db2 version 7
and get the same result. I think it may have something to do with the
windows installer.

I located the files you mentioned.

Are you sure you are using an administrators account?
Nov 12 '05 #7
The only time that i have seen this is when the ID that I was using did
not have admin rights. I would double check that.

Nov 12 '05 #8
yes

Nov 12 '05 #9
I have checked and my user is the administrator on the computer

I have an asp.net app that works fine on Windows XP IE6 browsers. The page renders correctly on IE6 on Windows 98 with no javascript errors. There are two grids and a few dropdown menus with a small number of items. When I click a link or dropdown web control, instead of calling back to the server, it simply hangs and the hourglass is displayed indefinitely. I verified that smartNavigation is false and I reduced the size of my viewstate...

I have narrowed a problem down to a simple example. A form with two buttons. One EXIT and one FBD. The exit button does an "END" to end the application. The FBD button does a FolderBrowserDialog and nothing else. When I start the application and hit EXIT everything works fine. However if it display the FBD box (even if I don't pick a folder and immediately hit cancel) and then try to exit one of two things happens. Either (1) the...

Hi all, I have a consistent test case where os.popen3() hangs in Windows. The system hangs when retrieving the lines from the child process stdout. I know there were several reports related to os.popen3() hanging under Windows in this group before. I stumbled on a case where a piece of code works in some occasions and hangs consistently given different data. It performs exactly the same on 3 different computers running Windows:

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
