Slow connects to database

DB2 7.2 EEE
AIX 5.2
Instance is partitioned over two servers.

Server A - Catalog node & 4 data node
Server B - 4 data node

Local and remote connection times to the only database on this instance
is recently taking around 65 seconds. Sometimes the connects are
normal. Once connected the performance seems to be normal.

* Its not just the first connection which is taking a long time.
Connects are slow even after explicitly activating the db.

* We are using circular logging

* Authentication is done locally (No NIS or anything special)

* i/o waits are mostly bellow 10%, but sometimes above 80%. Other OS
level stats like CPU, memory etc look ok.

* Re-booting the servers didn't help. (They had an uptime of 352 days)

* No hints in db2diag.log even when increased to 4.

* There are no changes been done to this db recently. No change in
db/dbm or BP.

Any hint on what could be the culprit here.

Thanks a lot

I have a mySQL database, called clients it has a single table called client with 2325 records in it. It was originally an Access database but I have exported it to mySQL. I have created a system DSN that connects fine. the following code works a treat. I get Connection Successful printed to my browser. <% on error resume next dim adoConn set adoConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")

Hi Everybody, I have been looking at problems with my Windows Forms C# application and it's little Jet 4 (Access) database for the last few days. The Windows Forms app implements a facade and implementation, data abstraction layer. But because each data adapter in the implementation layer has a connection object that opens and closes as needed, I found I got several errors from the Jet engine when there were simultaneous connections to...

Hi, I'm having a bit of a problem with a small application I wrote in C#, which uses an Access database (mdb file) for storing financial data. After looking for a similiar topic and failing to find one, I'm posting the question in hope some one of you guys out there will have the answer for me...! I'll start with what I have, then I'll continue to the problem itself.

Okay, here is what's happening: I have a reasonably fast laptop (1.4 GHz Mobile M, so comparable to 2.5GHz P4) doing .net development. Running Windows XP pro, SP2 IIS is installed and running fine All SQL Servers I am referring to share a small (10 computers or so) LAN with a 100MB Switch. No other computers on the LAN exhibit this problem.

I have a asp.net web application that connects to a database server that is located outside of our building. When I run the web app the initial connection to the database is slow ( around 30-35 seconds or so) but once I connect the app runs quickly. Is there anyway to speed up the connection time or am I stuck with it because its going across the "internet" to connect to the offisite database location?

I have a process that does inserts that runs 50% slower that Oracle and Mssql. Queries normally take 50% slower than normal. DB2, Oracle, Mssql all are configured on same os, same disk array (raid 1/0 - 15k disks) but DB2 I/O seems to be significantly slower. Tablespaces are SMS with automatic prefetch set. My thought was to create the log buffer array as large as possible so I don't have to switch to disk much. I'm running circular...

I built a PHP website on Windows 2000 (using IIS) that connects to a SQL Server 2000 database using the mssql functions. I migrated the website and the database onto a Windows 2003 machine, and now the mssql functions are significantly slower. On the Windows 2000 machine, the mssql_connect takes .03 seconds to run, and the odbc_connect takes the same amount of time. On Windows 2003, the mssql_connect takes a full second to run, but...

Hello, after installing DB2 V8.2.3 on OpenSuse 10.1 (in vmware) we have created a database instance with the restore command: db2 "restore database $OLD_DB user db2inst1 using db2inst1 from $BACKUP_DIRECTORY taken at $TS into $DB". We have activated the database but the first connection is still slow. db2 connect to <db_name>

Hi, I would like to thank you first again for the replies. Actually to clear some things out, I have an application called Moody's Financial Analyst which sits on Oracle (the server mentioned previously). This applications of course needs the oracle client to communicate with the server. When I connect to the machine (the client) with administrative priviledges the applications runs fine. When I connect on the machine as a power user,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
