essentially I am trying to do some counts based on some
assumptions in the recordset. So I get the RS back, put
the values into a variable, move to the next record in the
RS and compare what is in the variable to the value in the
next record in the recordset and do a count. Then
overwrite the value in the variables and do the same for
the next record and so.
But this runs extremly slow. 5000 records takes about 10
minutes in IE6 and I...

I am using the MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver to link three relatively small MySQL
tables to a Microsoft Access 2003 database. I am finding that the data from
the MySQL tables takes a hell of a long time to load making any kind linkage
with my Access data virtually useless.
I have the MySQL driver setup in as a USER DSN. The MySQL data is sitting
out on a server and the Access database is running locally. The network
connection is very...

Is it possible that the elapsed time being measured includes waiting for the
client to acknowledge that it has received all the data? In *addition* to
the server execution time?
Documentation seems to *imply* that the slow query log only looks at server
execution time. But, it doesn't acknowledge this directly and there seems
to be a distinct connection between slow network pipes and slow queries.
For example - even the simplest...

Hi Everybody,
I have been looking at problems with my Windows Forms C# application
and it's little Jet 4 (Access) database for the last few days. The
Windows Forms app implements a facade and implementation, data
abstraction layer. But because each data adapter in the implementation
layer has a connection object that opens and closes as needed, I found
I got several errors from the Jet engine when there were simultaneous
connections to...

Okay, here is what's happening:
I have a reasonably fast laptop (1.4 GHz Mobile M, so comparable to 2.5GHz
P4) doing .net development.
Running Windows XP pro, SP2
IIS is installed and running fine
All SQL Servers I am referring to share a small (10 computers or so) LAN
with a 100MB Switch.
No other computers on the LAN exhibit this problem.

Hello all!
I'm having a problem with a project I'm working on and I'd like to ask
for anyone's input that might be helpful. I'm building a rather large
front-end application connecting to an AS400 for the back end database
and I'm experiencing slow response times when executing sql statements.
Some select statement response times are bad. Not all, but some. And
there doesn't seem to be a consistent factor in any of the sql
statements...

Hi,
I'm using the text changed event of as text box to display a datagrid of
search results dynamically. (The classic 'gets more specific the more you
type in' scenario ).
I find when I first start the app & type in something into the text box, it
stalls & won't display the text you've typed in. After a short while, the
text appears & the results are loaded into the data grid. After the first
time, it works perfectly; loading data in as...

Hi guys;
I got a single processor computer, running an application that launches
2 threads.
Each of these threads listens for incoming connections in a specific
port, so there is a Loop . Until inside each of them.

I posted this in one of the VB forums but I'm starting to think it
might be more appropriate to have it here, since it really seems to be
a SQL server (MSDE/Express 2005) problem:
Hey, all, I have a problem with queries against a SQL server instance
that I just found and is causing me fits. I hope someone can point
me
in the right direction, please. TIA.
Basically, I got a Vista OS machine to test my VB6 app on it as some

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
