drop table/recover space

Sue
Hi, is there anything I need to do to recover hard disk space after
deleting a table? I have a large table with blob fields and when I
first created the table I did not compact this field. So I am planning
to create a second table with this field compacted and then delete the
first table completely. I can "drop" this table from the control center
to delete the table, right? Then will this automatically free up space
or is there anything else that needs to be done?

Thank you very much for helping.

If you're using SMS then dropping the table deletes the underlying files
associated with it and frees up the disk space.

Hi, * Question background : My DB is in ArchiveLog mode. I have TS in ReadOnly mode. As i know, - Oracle allows to DROP table resides in ReadOnly TS (& other objects also) even though that TS is in ReadOnly mode. - Oracle will not recover ReadOnly TS during Oracle startup.

Recently, one of our database's mdf and ldf was corrupted. We were able to bring back the database with the capability of importing and querying the data. However, the data is not the full list. Some of the data are still missing because the tables we want still has sone 'chain mis linkage' error when we did a DBCC checkdb/checktable. DBCC couldn't fix those errors either. We're pretty sure that there are some data still burry under the...

I have a huge table in it own tablespace (250 GB). I just deleted more than half of the columns in that table, but I didn't see any change in allocated space. I did DBCC CLEANTABLE and DBCC SHRINKFILE, but nothing. MS also says that CLEANTABLE only reclaims space for columns with text, char datatypes. How can I get space back for integer, decimal, number datatypes? I'm just all out of ideas.

the real DBAs aren't around for a few days, so rather than shoot myself in a tender spot, i thought i'd ask first. what docs i can find say that the syntax is: DROP TABLESPACE FOO seems simple enough, except that the other side is CREATE TABLESPACE FOO IN BARx

hello, What is the simplest way, with no lost of data hopefully to recover from a dropped table. I am using hot backup. Also, what constitute database files in the backup statement and is there a list of how to recover for each type of file corruption eg data file or config file? The doc doesn't seem to list the case scenario of how to recover from each case.

Hello, Every so often, I'm asked to help people recover data from tables that were either dropped or where to much data was DELETEed. The complications related to restoring data are a problem. The SAS users are laughing because they can (to a certain extend) easily go back to an earlier SAS table by simply starting dsm. Of course, a flat file table is different than a relational table; but still, the trouble related to restoring DB2...

I am trying to incorporate a CSS drop-down menu into a site (suckerfish menu). The menu gets lost behind the content below it, but only on one of the drop downs (News). The error occurs on all of the browsers I have tested it on (IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera and Safari). It is probably something simple, but I can't find it! Here is the CSS (using external style sheets): style-temp.css (Main style sheet for the site): * { font-family:...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
