< := "faster than":
Unfenced C < SQL PL < fenced C < Java (always fenced)

This is a thumb rule. The heavier the SQL teh less it matters.
Nothing, obviously beats C in pure procedural logic or math (short of
Assembly).
In general customers find SQL Procedures a lot easier to digest than C
Procedures ("native" interfaces).
For some of the lower level interfaces (like LOAD or file I/O) there are
presently no SQL hooks, so you need to use C Procedures for those, which
in turn can then be called by SQL Procedures.
SQL PRocedures and Java are portable.
C Procedures are portable if you stick with ANSI C.

Is this what you were looking for?

I was planning to chose Java Procedures.. exception handling I felt to
be good over there.

As u said .. C Procedures wud handle the low level interfaces.

THanks for the input.. let me decide depending on the requirements

Hi. I wrote some stored procedures used by a web application. As I am fairly new to Oracle, I am missing some concepts when creating these procedures, as a result, the application is suffering from poor performance everytime I call these procedures. I would like your help in order to identify potential mistakes when coding these procedures and I am posting a package and a procedure I use very often on the system, as an example:

One of my friends, Scott, is a consultant who doesn't currently have newsgroup access so I am asking these questions for him. I'll be telling him how to monitor the answers via Google Newsgroup searches. Scott has heard a lot of hype about DB2 and Oracle and is trying to understand the pros and cons of each product. I'm quite familiar with DB2 but have never used Oracle so I can't make any meaningful comparisons for him. He does not have...

hey all, I realize that this question might pop up from time to time, but I haven't seen it a while and things might of changed, so - Right now (July 2004) how does mysql stand up in comparison to oracle? We are seriously considering migrating our multi-processor oracle system to mysql to save on licensing costs, and would need several features that mysql may or may not have:

We have an application that is based on several extended stored procedures. When we run our application in house, or when most other customers run it, they see performance of about X transactions per second. One customer is seeing performance of about X/5, and I'm having a hard time troubleshooting it. The performace bottleneck has been narrowed to the execution of the extended stored procedures. Does anyone know of tuneable SQL Server...

I've inherited some code that calls SYSIBM.SQLPROCEDURES to validate user provided parameters and text prior to executing a stored procedure. This code was written on an early UDB release (V6?) and presumably ran fine. On some UDB v8.1 systems, calls to SYSIBM.SQLPROCEDURES take in excess of 58 seconds. My actual application sproc takes < 1 second to execute. Needless to say, this is not quite acceptable performance. On other UDB 8.1...

Hello i am newbie trying to learn C..I need to know about string comparisons in C, without using a library function,...recently I was asked this in an interview..I can write a small program but I was told that wouldn't it be wise to first get the length of the strings..if it doesn't match then they are not the same..I agreed...then he said..but again that would be an overhead first measuring the length...and then doing a character by...

I receive occasional notices from the Intel Software Network. I got one concerning the Intel Math Kernal Library 8.0. The blurb is at: http://www.intel.com/cd/software/products/asmo-na/eng/perflib/mkl/index.htm Has anyone used this Intel specific software in an attempt to boost Access' performance? If so, how much of an improvement did you get? Thanks for any and all information regarding this software. James A. Fortune

Hello, Environment: DB2 LUW v8 FP15 / Linux I have a table with 50+ Million rows. The table structure is basically (ID - Timestamp). I have two main applications - one inserting rows, and the other reading/deleting rows. The 'deleter' application runs a MIN/MAX (timestamp) for each ID and, if the difference between min/max is greater than 1h, it reads all

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
