IBM DB2 8.0 under Red Hat Linux 9.0

Hello,

I'm having trouble running IBM DB2 under Red Hat Linux 9.0. More
specifically, the IBM JDK 1.3.1 (needed for UDF's and the graphical
installer) crashes. After some googling I tracked the reason down to the
new Native Linux Threads (NLT) included in Red Hat 9.0. Apparently, Java
versions prior to 1.4.0 are not supported by Red Hat, while you need IBM
JDK 1.3.1 in order for User Defined Functions to work under DB2.

Does anyone know a solution towards this? Does anyone know of other Linux
distributions with similar problems? On what Linux distributions is DB2
guaranteed to work? Or does anyone have an idea if/when there will be an
update to DB2?

I'm not sure about RH 9 but IBM Java 1.4.1 is not fully functional under
RH Enterprise 3. Java works ok for the first user logging on at a GUI
terminal but will not function for additional GUI logons. The problem is
so bad that a "java -version" command hangs and never returns.

Do you mean the stuff that comes on DISK 9 of RHEL 3? I installed those
and they tended to segfault even for the simplest things.

I then downloaded the stuff below from IBM and it works for simple Java
programs, but I have not actually tried them with DB2 V8.1.5 yet. Over the
years I have gotten used to not using Java with DB2. I had a Blackdown
version that partially worked with DB2 V6.1, but was impossibly slow.
IBM has new release of 1.41 (1.4.1 SR2 ), so you might want to try that. I
have not had any problems with DB2 version 8 and IBM Java 1.4.1 on RH9 after
using the steps I posted previously. I am using the latest kernel release
available for RH9.

Is that these:

54212154 Apr 29 17:00 IBMJava2-SDK-1.4.1-2.0.i386.rpm

?

Just installed J2RE 1.4.2 on a Linux server. I am very knew to the POSIX world. I couldn't dig-up much in the docs or via google about the following: 1 - Is there a standard way to make sure users (all, or some) can "reach" java? eg one could presumably create a java.sh or aliases ... Where is the standard Linux directory to put such a script (and why)?

Rationale to use Linux ======================= - I can't afford paying for $199 for the license of an OS that's arguably better thank Linux for each of 10 computers I have. - I want to be free of Microsoft stigma, and of constant lockdown on Microsoft products. The world is better than that. - Linux runs .NET :-) Reverse engineers in less than a year. That's

Lately, I have been having a bear of a time trying to acquire a Linux driver for my S3/ProSavage chipset -- but that quest is now almost at an end as I have located a noble band of people who are pushing the envelop with S3 and Savage chipset drivers! Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
