Can you help me Trouble Shoot Upgrade?

I have a old computer which is a gateway E4000. I opened it up today to upgrade some of the guts. I changed the ram from (2)256MB DDR to (2) 1GB Ram cards. I also changed the Intel Processor 4 at 2.2 Ghz to Intel Processor 4 at 3 Ghz. Now, I have issues. When powered on, my monitor does not pick up that the computer is on and stays in Idle. I changed the hardware back and the smae thing. I can tell if the upgrade screwed something up nor can I finish it. I know it is not the monitor because I use it with my laptop. Can anyone help me? Can you tell me what I did wrong? Can it be fixed? I need to fix it myself cause I am a college student and low on funds (cant afford someone with expertise). Please Help.

G'day mate,

There is chance that your system does not support the new CPU since I've read the configuration of E4000 and it should be fine with 2GB of the same type of RAM.

If you PC did not sound anything, it means the CPU is not working, if it beeps with intervals then it may mean something else.

Suggestion: Take off the old CPU, make sure there no dust inside the CPU slot and put it back in properly, hope this will boot up your PC.

Thanks for getting back to me. I had tried putting the original parts back into the computer...Ram and CPU, but the situation continues....Light on PC powers on, the monitor doesn't come on. I don't hear any beeping... Can you please advise? Thanks so much too! IT worked fine until I decided to upgrade...Yikes! :)

Yeah, the power light is always on since it has power but it doesn't help :D.
In this situation, there is chance that your old PC or the mobo is dead when you do the upgrading. I will say the CPU may be the case, so you need to find another one that should be the same with it and try on the mobo, other than that try a different mobo that support the old CPU to see which one is dead.
