I'm curious about something... many Artima.com members who have a Java
background and learned Python have come to the conclusion that Java and
Python are highly complimentary languages. They would never consider
filling the place Java has in their toolbox with Python, but recognize there
are many tasks where it really pays to add Python to the mix.
I want to ask you hard-core c.l.p Pythonistas: Do you use Python for
everything? (and...

I've been programming in C++ for a few years now. At one stage, I had a
great deal of it very fresh in my mind.
About two weeks ago, I started back programming in C++ having not been at it
for maybe a year. I opened a few of my old source files and was... well...
unfamiliar!
Looking at "p_k = &k" and the like left me staring blankly at the screen
trying to think exactly what that meant... ?

I've been utilising C for lots of small and a few medium-sized personal
projects over the course of the past decade, and I've realised lately
just how little progress it's made since then. I've increasingly been
using scripting languages (especially Python and Bourne shell) which
offer the same speed and yet are far more simple and safe to use. I can
no longer understand why anyone would willingly use C to program
anything but the lowest...

For building Windows desktop apps, the clear favorite is C#. But my clients
can't afford to buy Microsoft products. So I need to develop software for Linux
users and web applications.
In the open source world, what is the programmer's language of choice?
Judging by the number of members in each of these
http://www.google.com/Top/Computers/Programming/Languages/Open_Source/ user
groups, it looks like the top 3 open source languages...

I bought this book years ago, when I was just learning C++. Since
then I've gone through every math course offered at my college, taken
courses on coding C & thinking in terms how how to make the smallest
tightest algorithms to preform specific functions. I've also grown
and matured a lot, and am wiser and older. I'm reading through the C+
+ Programming Language, Third Edition now, and I can actually
understand it. I can understand it...

The World Joint Programming Language Standardization Committe (WJPLSC)
hereby proclaims to the people of the world that a new programming language
is needed for the benefit of the whole mankind in the 21st millenium.
This new language not only differs from existing ones by new features
and paradigms but which also brings real advantage by rigourously
preventing bad programmer habits by omitting features which are outdated.
In the proposed...

Up till now I've been a self though PHP programmer, with all the good and bad that comes with that.
I want to expand my horizon by learning a new language, and was hoping some of you here could enlighten me with some good alternatives.
I want to continue with web development, and I guess a typical application would be a CMS, with database integration and all that.
I've been thinking of C#, Java, Python and Ruby On Rails. Any of these...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
