Hello,
My background is C++
I would like to know for sure if it is possible to pass a value by
reference to a function AND having it changed by the function itself
def changeValue( text ):
text = 'c'

Hello,
My question concerns as to how a pointer is passed by reference as a
function argument. The following is from code taken from the MICO
implementation of the CORBA specification.
in include files:
typedef Context *Context_ptr;
typedef ObjOut<Context> Context_out;

Hi,
I am just learning about the array/pointer duality in C/C++. I couldn't
help wondering, is there a way to pass an array by value? It seems like
the only way to do is to pass it by reference??
Thanks,
BB

I have, what should be, a simple scope problem. Can you help me fix this?
I'm trying to end up like this:
originalArray = and newArray = .
Instead I wind up like this:
originalArray = and newArray = .
Here's my code:

Hi,
I'm new to C# and have run into a problem of my own making! I
originally took from the documentation that as long as I didn't use
the "ref" keyword in method declarations, that everything would be
passed "by value". I now believe I was incorrect and that it's only
types like int, bool, etc. that behave like that? i.e. things like
XmlDocument are always passed by reference in method calls?
I was writing a "wrapper" class around a...

:confused: This is just an absurd piece of code. Can anyone please explain the reason?
//a function that nulls the array passed as parameter
function Nullify(arrRef)
{
arrRef = null;
}
var arr = new Array();

I want to pass an array to a function and then to use count on the
passed variable - is this the way to do it (its an object method) :
public function foo(array& $arr)
{
if (count($arr) < 1)

I wrote a function foo(int arr) and its prototype
is declared as foo(int arr); I modify the values of the array in the
function and the values are getting modified in the main array which
is passed also. I understand that this way of passing the array is by
value and if the prototype is declared as foo(int *), it is by
reference in which case the value if modified in the function will get
reflected in the main function as well. I dont...

If I don't specify "ref" in the argument list when passing an array to the
callee, I am passing the array (reference) by value. But this makes me
confused because it actually means a "reference" of a "reference"??As I pass
the array by value, the callee can change that array. However,when I use
ref, the callee and caller point to two different arrays. So could anyone
please explain the 2 different situations?

Hi,
I’m currently doing a fun project, where I stumble upon the quite annoying fact, that between some methods the arrays (they are the parameters) are passed by reference, which screws up the logic.
does anyone have an idea, how I can pass the arrays by value?
GAME.MagicSquare.prototype.createTable = function ()
{
var doc = document,
// create various HTMLElements
rows = this.rows,

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
