I am learning Javascript; and most books only give you partial definitions for the functions they show you. Here is a line of code from a browser sniffing function: var isWin = (navigator.platform.indexOf("Win") !=-1) ? true:false; What does the -1 stand for. Excuse me for such a basic question, but I can't find the answer anyway.

Given int x; What does x evaluate to? If x is 0, it equals 0x31, the ascii value of '1'. So for some reason, x evaluates to *(y+x) where x is a non pointer/array type.

I'm trying to convert this macro to a c# function but I have a big problem. It's on the LEFT side of an assignment statement and I am extremely flustered over this one because I'm a little rusty and have been struggling over this for days, not wanting to show all my ignorance in final desparate plea for help which this is ... Here is the macro ... #define X(t,b) (sp->x)

Hi, what does the Me.DesignMode-Property turn back. I tried to set a MsgBox(Me.DesignMode) in my form's and control's Sub New(), but it allways turns back 'false', even if the form or control is open in Designmode. To set correctly the properties when changed in the property-browser while designing I need to know if the control is in designtime or in runtime-mode. Is there a way to manage this?

I'm running two different compilers against some hairy macros and one, gcc, doesn't like my token pasting result so much. It says, " "." and "foo" does not give a valid preprocessing token ". Some further reading suggests that since .foo is not a valid preproc. token that I can't really do what I want, portably. The macro looks like this: #define DMA_CHECK_SR_BIT(reg, REG, ch) do \ { ...

Hi, I have used bitfields in C before and I understand all the AND/OR operations etc. While learning C# I was told to mark all by "bitfield enums" with the attribute. Do why? Exactly what does this attribute do? The MSDN docs says: " Indicates that an enumeration can be treated as a bit field; that is, a set of flags." but that really doesn't tell you anything substantial:...

Hi, When reading the source code of dojo, it uses the following statement quite often. What does it mean? What I do not understand is it has a function definition enclosed in a pair of parenthesis and the the last pair of parentheses. ( function() { ... }) ();

hi, what does this exactly mean: "Except for the new, delete, typeid, dynamic_cast, and throw operators and the try-block, individual C++ expressions and statements need no run-time support." TC++PL § 1.3.1 thanks, Mulugeta

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
