One of the most beautiful aspects of living this times is that most
of the walls have come down.
The wall that existed between Unix and MS-Windows has, greatly,
fallen, so, when writing a program we must consider Unix and MSW
users. However, with the huge number of widget-toolkits promising
portability and speed in most of the operating systems, I find it hard
to decide which of the C/C++ widget-toolkits to use.
So, I would like to ask everyone what Widget Tool Kit you recommend
that will not only make my programs portable, but that will also
increase my marketability as a programmer/developer.
Thank you in advance 1 1433

In c.l.c++ the usual recommendations are Qt and wxWidgets, they will
both give you portability, search the archives for more extensive
discussions on the subject.
As for increasing your marketability as a programmer I do not think any
one of them will be better, whichever you choose there is still a
possibility that your future employer will use the other. How many
different toolkits you know is not nearly as interesting as how quickly
you will learn another one.
PS. Cross-posting to so many groups is seldom a good idea, follow-ups
set to c.l.c++.

I need to develop an eCommerce site (shopping cart, secure, etc) for our company. Will .net do this? I see a lot of chatter about creating websites but little about secure sites that can process credit cards, interact with shipping calculators, etc. What I really need is a template like VS/MFC provides for desktop apps, something to get me started.
Is .NET the right tool or should I be looking at something like ColdFusion/DreamWeaver?

JSLint is now available as a Konfabulator widget. Drop a .js file on
it, and it will tell you about its coding weaknesses. JSLint is an
essential tool for quality programming in JavaScript.
You can get it here: http://www.widgetgallery.com/view.php?widget=37484
But first install Konfabulator, which you can get here:

I am having a problem installing the starter kits. I have reinstalled VS

Any web starter kit that is installed under 'My Templates" does not allow
you to enter the location directory or use the browse button. Neither the
"Personal Website" or the "Club Website" allows you to select the...

I'm wondering if any of the other GUI kits have a text widget that is
similar in power to the one in Tk. wxWindows, from what I can tell,
doesn't offer nearly the options the Tk widget does. I'm less familiar
with Qt. Any feedback would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
