Hello folks -- I would like a JavaScript tutorial for programmers. By this I mean that I'd like to know the language "fundamentals" /first/ and then learn about the "web stuff". This is because I came accross some articles claiming that JavaScript is, in fact, quite full of interesting capabilities (closures, higher-order functions, anonymous funtions, even object can be supported as in OOP). Can anyone recommend me a tutorial that goes...

Hi, Can someone recommend a VB.NET book for an experienced VB programmer? I have extensive experience in programming in VB, but lately I decided to try VB.NET too. I think I have pretty good hold of this new language and framework now. I was wondering if someone can suggest a good (and cheap) book for me for an intermediate programmer. Some book which has ADO.NET, web services and all

Hi, I am a total newbie to asp.net. I have spent the last week or so trying to find a good tutorial that would show me how to create a form that would be entered into a SQL database and then once entered into the database would email me the results of the form. I found the tutorials on aspnet101.com (Emailing form results) and they really did not explain to well.

I am trying to learn HTML and have obtained several books on the subject. However, I am confused with the proper way of going about it as most of these books give me the basic tags and then say they will soon be deprecated and advise using CSS stylesheets. Which comes first? Do I learn the old tags and then "upgrade" to CSS or just bypass the old tags and learn only the CSS procedures. Doesn't one have to understand the old tags to use...

Hello, I have about 7 years programming experience but none of it with PHP. I got a project to build an IVR with Asterisk and we used a consultant to help. Now that the project is in production, the company wants to send me to asterisk developer training. I'm very excited about it except that the training starts in two weeks and PHP is a prerequisite for the course. I know C/C++ well so I'm hoping I can get up to speed quickly. Does...

I've looked far and wide around the internet trying to find a decent tutorial on how to start using ajax to control my form posting. I'd like to have it so my users don't have to go to a new page after they've submitted a page, but my ajax/java skills are lacking. I've purchased a few books and have started learning, but I'm looking for a tutorial to get off and running. Any help would be appreciated.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
