I'm thinking of implementing a real-time collaborative text editor in Python
using Twisted. An initial plan is to use a Twisted PB server daemon that
accepts user:password:file connections from text editor clients to make
changes to a specified file on the server, and have the text editor clients
update their local copies of the file based on local user input or input
entered from other users, relayed via the server.

at work we switched to UTF-16 encoding and now when I open html files in
HomeSite the code is all messed up, and if I turn on "enable non-ANSI
file encoding" code looks fine when I open files but I get this error
when I try to save them..
"The character set defined in your document does not match the
encoding format you selected in the Save As Dialog" (even though I
don't do Save As, just save..) and sometimes doesn't let me save them...

I am thinking about writing a text editor in C for unix sometime soon.
I am just doing this to learn more about C. I want to write something
like ed.c, a simple line editor. What types of data structures would be
appropriate? I am thinking about using a linked list, but I am also
wondering whether a tree would be useful. Please give me your

I know there's a request for a good IDE at least once a week on the ng,
but hopefully this question is a little different. I'm looking for
suggestions for a good cross-platform text editor (which the features
for coding, such as syntax highlighting, etc.) but not a full IDE with
all the fancy jazz (GUI developer, UML diagrams, etc.).
Ideally, it would be something I could even put on a flash drive and
move from computer to computer, but...

I'm doing a Rich Text Editor (WYSIWYG) in javascript for a game for
kids. I'm doing a special case in with every keystroke from A-Z creates
a background and foreground color for that letter, witch is the same.
The problem is editing doesn't work that well.
For example when I type: ABCDFG , I get this code generated and
displayed by the Rich Text Editor:

I've looked online for a while but haven't found a whole lot of really
good resources for this, so I'm hoping that maybe someone here can
point me in the right direction. I'm working with a 3rd party
application that allows users to create customizable files within
certain syntax rules. There isn't, however, a good editor for these
files (users end up using Notepad, I guess) and I would like to create
one...most likely using Visual Studio....

My newsweblog has ASP pages with news articles and a commenting system. The comments are posted, and to read them the reader clicks on the headline of the comment, and it opens up in a pop up window.
I added this "whizzywig rich text editor" to the comments textbox where readers comment on articles.
